Pre-race routine:

Setup transition and chat with a few of the others.
Event warmup:

Stretch / swim / wait.
Swim
  • 11m 47s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 57s / 100 yards
Comments:

Now that I am starting to swim a bit better I am "in the pack" at the first buoy. Need to find a better line / pace??
What would you do differently?:

Pace myself away from the larger pack - maybe try and get out front a bit quicker?
Transition 1
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

Seemed really slow. Afterwards, my time was on average as previous attempts. I know I can get faster at this...
What would you do differently?:

Practice more and more... Little issues are causing delays. Need to figure out how to get around them.
Bike
  • 30m 45s
  • 5 miles
  • 9.76 mile/hr
Comments:

Very sandy after the past few weeks of rain. Much of the course is evolving over the summer...
What would you do differently?:

More practice on mountain bike. I only ride it in these races... very little off road practice. Too focused on road race coming up.
Transition 2
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

As with T1 - can get faster at this. I had better times last year - or so it seems..
What would you do differently?:

Stretch / pull laces for sneakers.
Pay attention to the little details.
Run
  • 38m 3s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 12m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

Used a metronome in race for first time. Set a bit too high, could not get into the rhythm.
Ended up being a PR for me.. even though it didn't feel like it on the run
What would you do differently?:

Set pace a bit lower on the metronome.
Post race
Warm down:

Chill out, finished the HEED in my bike bottle, drank some water.

Loaded truck then headed for a shower.. nice facilities at Winding Trails.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training, or lack thereof, with off road running and biking.
Fighting sinus infection / cold - wasn't very motivated.

Event comments:

Best run at Winding Trails for me to date...
