Run
Comments: sjlschafer and I wanted to run about 8:30s. We ran the first mile right around 9. Then picked it up a bit. We did a pretty good job of running right at 8:30 for most of the race. A few were quicker and a few were slower. But overall, we are right on. I felt pretty good for the whole race. Took some gel at mile 6.5 and just after 10. Washed down with water in each case. I had the PowerGel Strawberry-banana gel. That did not mix too well with the lemon-lime gatorade I had just taken the aid station before. Left my stomach in cramps for a mile or so till the water mixed everything up. lol. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I enjoyed running with sjlschafer. I don't get the opportunity to train/race with him very often. And when I do, I enjoy the company. Post race
Warm down: Gatorade, water, banana, clif bar. Some light stretching after consuming post-race goodies. Walked back to car. Event comments: A very nice course. I enjoyed the views. I recommend this race to others. It is well supported. The aid stations were everywhere. Both sides of course at what seemed like every mile and a half or so. Lots of spectators. Stayed with sjlschafer.
Woke at 4:30 AM. Tossed and turned most of the night. Not sure why. Much have been pre-race excitement. Ate some oatmeal and had a cup of coffee. Left house around 5:00 AM for drive into the city. Arrived just before 6:00 AM.
Found restroom and then stretched a bit before getting in the corral. Drank a few small cups of water while waiting for race to start.
