Run
Comments: Stayed on plan of running 8:30 pace really well. Was a different plan than last time where I started off slower. I think this way is better for me. Alternated gatorade and water at each station after mile 3. Had a gel about mile 6 and then again at about mile 10. Felt very strong the first half if not more. Still felt good at end, some very slight leg soreness and one time about mile 12.5 the left calf wanted to cramp, but didn't. Was not nearly as beat as last year's Chicago Half Marathon, felt I had more in me and could have went a little faster. What would you do differently?: Not much. Probably pick up the pace at the end to finish stronger. Knowing the course and the last mile or so would help since I could better determine when to sprint for the finish without dying at end. Post race
Warm down: Cold town, Gatorade, bananna, etc. Then really just walking to car. Some stretching once home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not knowing my limits. Probably could have picked it up and finished sooner, but was unsure how much I could push myself. Believe I had more to give, but don't know for sure. Event comments: Nearly perfect, great event. Bueller came out and stayed the weekend for the event. We woke about 4:30 had some oatmeal, bananna and cup of coffee. Left about 5 and drove in and parked by 6. Drank a Gatorade on the drive in. Hit the rest room, did some light stretching, then hit the starting line.
Just the light stretching.
