Pre-race routine:

Event warmup:

A jog and a short bike to make sure gears were working

  • 2.5 miles

Comments:

I went out fast and felt good. Much faster than usual. When I feel good I should just go Psyched about this time and think it is a multi-sport PR

Bike
  • 41m 11s
  • 13 miles
  • 18.94 mile/hr
Comments:

It was super humid and hot. I drank my whole aero bottle after 6 miles--got to keep a second one on the bike. But I was Ok.
What would you do differently?:

Carry second bottle
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Run
  • 22m 9s
  • 2.3 miles
  • 09m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

Flippin' humid and with the sun it was killer. BUT no cramping, tried to keep the pace reasonable but not crazy. I walked the one hill from trail to street and that kept the HR down.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked a lot. Water bottle, banana, gatorade and then I was good.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Freakin' hot and humid. But smart choices in spite of that.

Event comments:

Really nice local race by a local organization. Very well-run. Concern for safety was strong with lots of volunteers on course even on the run. And they sent someone out to sweep up the stuff farmers left on the road so it was alll very clean. I'll do this one regularly.

Wind: Some with gusts
Course: From the school out to Nelson and back on Hwy 29 Wind made it tough in the middle but nice trail portion was sheltered a bit and wind at our backs on Hwy 29. Pretty flat. Great time especially with the wind. I think it's a PR for the 14-15 mile bike range.

Performance: Good
Course: Same as the first except instead of a slow incline to the school, it was a sharper one, though shorter. But more sun and humidity and heat and I still had a good pace.
