Swim
Comments: Race organizers were not well organized for the swim. Had trouble setting up the course and we started 15 minutes late. The chop was quite tough to begin with quite a number of people getting tossed around by the decent sized waves. Some people apparently thought it was too much and decided then and there not to race. There was good rescue support and I saw just a few people getting pulled from the water. Once we were past the 2 swells the swim was pretty smooth What would you do differently?: Practice open water and ocean swimming more The form, breathing and stroke all go out the window when you battle waves like these. It just boils down to pure instinct at this point. Transition 1
Comments: Tough asphalt to run on. Took some throw-away shoes to protect my feet. Small transition area was nice. No water to rinse feet off. Smaller race and it showed in the exit into T1 stage but it wasn't too bad. What would you do differently?: Bring my own bucket to rinse my feet off. Bike
Comments: Since it was group swim start, I did not see the mass waves of age-groups riding in packs on the bike. Smaller race so all of the participants were pretty much spread out. Traffic was light and I'm sure the better athletes went pretty darn fast. Pretty smooth course and minimal turns. What would you do differently?: Not too much. More chamois butter. Transition 2
Comments: Holy sore back and uncomfortable bum!!!!! There was no one to help re-apply sunblock. Be sure to take your own sunblock with a high SPF. You are on your own here. Hazard of a smaller race! Also, carry your own nutrition. They only had warm water on the bike. What would you do differently?: Not too much. Carry an extra cold water bottle. Run
Comments: It was hotter than heck out there. Was in decent shape but I was just toast out there. Way too hot. Dumping water on me. Couldn't have run faster if I tried. What would you do differently?: Not much. Post race
Warm down: Sat on a chair in the shade and tried to bring my core temp down. It was very hot. What limited your ability to perform faster: The heat. Event comments: This is a smaller race that did a pretty good job. I used it as a training race for Ironman Florida which I believe most other people did as well. There was good support on the run and it is a nice location. Last updated: 2015-09-28 12:00 AM

This was a training race for Ironman Florida which is Nov 7th.
Stayed at the Courtyard Marriott which was less than a half-mile north of the race site. Nice hotel by the way.
Dinner (& 2 beers) the night before. The kids and wife were with me so this was a "family" event. Woke up at 5AM and just rode my bike to the transition area - wide open, not a lot of participants. Clif Bar / Banana... and a pre-race visit to the bathroom.
It was dark out and had the makings for a very warm day.
Just stretched some and set-up my bike / tranistion area.
There was plenty of room. Was not organized by Male/ Female or age-group.
We were all mixed in seemingly by when we registered for the event.
