Swim
Comments: Mediocre swim. Not terrible, but pretty far down the list in the AG and overall. What would you do differently?: Same tune: not enough swim volume. Really going to try to improve this for Austin 70.3 Transition 1
Comments: This was a pretty lousy transition for me. I was almost 2 minutes slower than most other guys in my AG. Part of that was walking up the hill to get my HR and breathing under control. Part was toweling off just a bit. Bike
Comments: No power reading again, but I was planning on going mostly by feel anyway. Think I nailed it pretty close. I don't think the slow down on the run was a result of overdoing the bike. What would you do differently?: Not much. Think my nutrition plan here was one of my best. Alternated water and Gatorade and supplemented with low fat brownies. Transition 2
Comments: Decent T2. Made up some time on some of the guys in my AG. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Started out great. First mile was under 7:30. Stayed under 8/mile until about mile 8. Slowed down a lot at that point, but was never reduced to a walk other than at the aid stations. Should have grabbed the Coke prior to mile 12. Felt like that did wonders for me. What would you do differently?: Need a little more run training volume and to up the mileage of the long Saturday rides. The challenge at Austin 70.3 will be that damn hill on the run course. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a bit. Got back in the river to rinse off. Took all the stuff back to the car and then got in the river again. That felt awesome. What limited your ability to perform faster: Too little volume in swim training, which is a repeat from every year that I've ever raced. Run speed is good. I just need to extend the endurance a little bit. Event comments: Great race in a nice venue. The split transitions are easy to deal with. The swim course is simple and easy to navigate. The bike course is mostly flat and relatively fast with only a couple of sections of rough chip seal. The run course along the new trail is scenic and has quite a bit of shade. I definitely rate this race over the Austin 70.3 for half irons in central Texas. Last updated: 2015-09-28 12:00 AM

Got a decent night's sleep and was able to sleep until 6. Had a couple of apple turnovers that I bought at HEB the night before. Pretty typical race morning.
No warmup other than some dynamic stretching.
