Swim
Comments: Started is waist deep water. Swim was average and I can never seem to get any speed but just tried to stay consistent, work on my stroke, sighting and navigate the buoys well. Got off course a couple times. Garmin read 1817 yd but that probably included a long run up the beach - and there were stairs going up to the parking lot where transition was. Just took it easy - didn't want to twist my ankle running in flip flops. Saw a HUGE rainbow going around the 2nd loop since it had started raining on and off. That was cool! What would you do differently?: Be more aggressive on the swim, but it is my weak sport so as long as I get out of the water, I'm happy. I enjoyed this swim since it was a different location than where I normally race. I'm just slow. Transition 1
Comments: Getting pretty good at fast transitions. Just tried to stay relaxed. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: While this course was extremely hilly, I enjoyed the variety and scenery was beautiful!!! I'm glad I used my road bike for this! Support was good but didn't love that it wasn't a closed course, but all the motorists (even those with huge boats and trailers) were nice enough. Ate 1 HUMA gel and 3 shot bloke, along with some coke that was in one of my water bottles and plenty of water with OSMO. What would you do differently?: Push the hills a little harder, but overall I think my effort was steady and consistent. Transition 2
Comments: Had an issue getting my bike on the rack and got into transition with the other female rider that had been close to me on the course. Into shoes, visor on and GO! What would you do differently?: Just move a little quicker getting my bike on the rack. Run
Comments: People were already walking out of transition but I made a promise to myself to not walk at ALL on the uphills, just try to keep it slow and even. Kept an eye on my HR but it never got out of control. Everyone out on the course was friendly and we laughed at the hills and just enjoyed the scenery. As I was running, i could see anyone on their way back and realized that I hadn't seen any females run by. Knew there was 1 girl behind me, so thought that I could be in first place, which was awesome and really gave me motivation not to let up on my speed no matter if I was going up or down. It started POURING buckets of rain around mile 4 and immediately everything was soaked but we all laughed and joked that at least it was better than 105 degrees which the temps have been in the previous weeks. Used the girl behind me as motivation to push all the way to the end and finished strong. What would you do differently?: Manage my speed downhill. I was going fast but I'm sure my form was awful and why I was so sore after. Post race
Warm down: Made a visit immediately to the restroom, then walked around and stretched. Not much for post race food so just drank some water and the rest of the coke from my bike bottle. Had a few orange slices. We had to wait a LONG time for any awards to be given out, so was able to pack up bike and transition area (all soaking wet). There were so many people still out on the course so we really did have to wait a long time but was able to chat with other athletes that I saw on the course and take some pics. Final results were up and I saw I did indeed get 1st overall female, wish I was SO EXCITED about. Never happened before, so I wanted to stick around for my award! Got an award and $50 gift card to local tri store, which I definitely can use. What limited your ability to perform faster: Trying to stay a little conservative on the bike because I knew the run would be tough. My ability to run downhill isn't the best. Otherwise I think I had a great race! Event comments: This race is put on by a local small race company, so it was much smaller than the events I usually do. But with the smaller field, I think it made it a more friendlier atmosphere and all athletes were very chatty and encouraging! Very well organized, although there was a misspelling on both the race shirt (not gender specific) and trophy. Last updated: 2015-10-07 12:00 AM

Woke up early at 3:30 because had a long drive to race venue. Made some coffee, ate a protein bar, grabbed a banana, loaded all gear including bike into the car and left house by 4:20. Took about 50 min to drive to the lake. Our bikes needed to be in transition by 6am.
Set up transition quickly in the dark - luckily I brought a headlamp. Pretty mellow since this race has very few participants, but we were all just milling about. Walked down to the lake to check the temp since I had just been swimming there the Thursday before…water was fine so no wetsuit even though they were allowed. Visited bathrooms probably 3 times - nervous stomach. Haven't raced in a while since I've been in Ironman training all summer. Coach wanted me to push the pace on this and see what would happen. Race meeting around 45 min before the start.
