Pre-race routine:

Late race start (10:30), so I ate a normal breakfast at the hotel. I woke up and told my GF I wasn't going to do it since I got word that my grandma died the night before. While eating though, I decided I may as well do it. I was stuck in a city that I couldn't get home early from so I may as well make the best of it.
Event warmup:

Stood there freezing. No warmup and no stretching. I just ran out the gate which was probably a little bad.

  • 13.1 miles
  • 06m 52s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

I dressed too warm. I wasn't used to the cold yet so I was in 2 shirts, long pants, and gloves. I think the pants slowed me down but it felt really nice up until mile 2 and afterwards for sure when I was waiting for my GF.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat and walked around. Waited for GF and started to panic when I never saw her. I guess I missed her

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Pants and not half assing running for 3 weeks due to a cold.

Event comments:

Good race in a city I thought I would never ever visit. The places we went to were not bad at all. Just need to stay in the good parts and this town is actually really nice. I was hoping for something closer to 1:25 but my run training said otherwise. Going to keep at it but it just seems like this is my max pace for long distance running since this is about 5 seconds better than a 1/2 I did in May.

Performance: Good
Started at a 6:30 mile and then I went up to a 7:10 minute mile for a lap. I thought about my grandma and that helped push me through the middle when I was struggling with the hills.
Course: Pretty nice looking for the 5 seconds I looked around. I never pay attention to the scenery of a race though. There were slight hills going over the bridges and a million turns at mile 11 or so running along the lake. Had to work my way through a ton a marathoners (they started at 7).
