Pre-race routine:

Made some pancakes, got my Indiana Jones costume together and drove to Thacher Park
Event warmup:

Ran for a few minutes to see how my costume worked with running. Had to ditch the whip and change out my under armour undershirt (way warmer than expected).

Comments:

Had a great time running on the trails. It was a bit muddy from the recent rain, but not too bad overall. Went with hiking shoes instead of my usual running sneakers for better traction (also went better with my costume). At times pushed the pace, at others backed off a bit. Wasn't really aiming to win anything, but also couldn't resist the urge to run people down when I saw them.

I went a bit off course at one point, realizing I could not longer see the guy that was a bit ahead of me and turned around. Added roughly 1/4 mile to the race, and wasn't able to catch everyone that passed me while I was off on my own adventure. Oops!

Running in costume was interesting. It was warmed than expected and I really roasted in the dungarees. The shirt also came untucked a few times which was a bit annoying. As they race wore on the clothes also got VERY heavy with sweat. Totally worth it though! Doing an action roll over the finish line and having to reach back to grab my hat was awesome!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, had a blast!
Post race
Warm down:

Did a short jog and tried to stretch a bit. Glad I brought a backup undershirt for afterwards as it started to get pretty cold and I would've froze in the wet one.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Costume, getting lost, not pushing the pace the whole way. Not really a good race to look for a PR in anyway!

Event comments:

Really enjoyed this race! The Halloween themed stuff is just the best. Still think I got robbed in the costume contest!

One thing I would recommend for next year: they really should have some Gatorade at the aid stations. Trying to choke down pretzels with water does not work when running hard. Doing a half marathon with zero liquid calories available was not ideal.
