Pre-race routine:

Scout out course 3 days before , rode bike course and run course, pancake flat but could be windy. very similar course to breath of life in climate and topography.

Arrive early , set up , walk thru transitions , eat and drink a little visit bathroom. meet fellow worker John Mcg.. who is also doing the event.
First triathlon of the year so I am a little excited.
Event warmup:

Not much other than stretching and walking . save me energy for the race.
Watched John warm up on his bike.
Swim
  • 06m 7s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

Ran as fast a i could in a wetsuit !
Transition 1
  • 02m 48s
Comments:

Should not have worm suit as we did not swim ! Many competitors who had friends watching the wave start took off their wetsuits before the start and ran and Transitioned 1 a little faster.
What would you do differently?:

No wetsuit if swim is cancelled . running in a wetsuit is the fastest.
Bike
  • 33m 16s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 20.74 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

Good transition , took water but forgot my running number!
What would you do differently?:

Slow down and get everything right.
Return to T2 by jumping the perimeter fence and retreived my number,
they have chip timing and mats at all the entrances and exits so I did not want to screw up my clock.
Run
  • 28m 15s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Running good , but ran at least an extra 400 m to go back and get my running number....

What would you do differently?:

Need more conditioning but still I am 1 min per mile faster than last year.
Shooting for 8 min per mile split by sept.
Post race
Warm down:

strawberries and chocolate

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Conditioning, on the swim and run , ability to run on the sand in a wetsuit for 400 m.

Event comments:

Dangerous and choppy Surf condition delayed start , organizers handled changing situation as well as they could.

Performance:
Suit: Brian Coffee Ventilator
Course: Out across and back with a beach run to get in the water. surf deemed Too ruff by lifeguards , 1st two waves go out and in and very rough surf forced organizers to cancel swim in the following waves. For safety reasons we were instructed to run in 4 feet of water and then on the beach up to T1, so its now a duathlon with a 400 m run on the sand in wetsuit . :)

Biked as hard as I could with staying aerobic.
Wind: Some
Course: Flat fast course , I lost a water bottle as one of my cages felt off. I had taken it off an old bike to save 4 dollars and lost it on the road just as quickly. I thought part of my rear derailler had fallen off , it made such an awful metallic noise. Could do with aerobars .
