Swim
Comments: I hung with the lead group until the first turn buoy. I was a little bit back so not getting a draft of them anymore. I also noticed they were way off course. I hung with 2 other guys who navigated properly. They took turns trying to pass eachother, and I just hung behind both and latched onto their draft like a lamprey. Between the lead group and these two guys I drafted probably 80% of the whole course. What would you do differently?: Nuttin' honey. Transition 1
Comments: Run uphill a bit from the exit to transition, and out the other side to start the bike. When I upended my helmet to put it on, water poured on my head. Yay. It was definitely rainy. What would you do differently?: Problems again with wetsuit. I just need to practice more. It always gets stuck on my heels. Bike
Comments: Due to the rain it was quite technical, and I took it very easy through some of the turns. This was a C race so last thing I needed was to slideout and hurt myself or wreck the bike. I dropped my chain to the inside on one climb. I also got stung by a mother(*$%$ing bee on my foot at about mile 21. It got inside my shoe by the ankle and stung me. I almost wrecked when it happened as I had to reach down and fish it out. I also had my rear brake rubbing, so I had to reach back during the race and raise the cam to disengage it so I wouldn't rub. Rain, hills, no rear brake. Wheeeeee! :) One big shot of gel from my flask at 55 min. Aerobottle with 3 scoops Gu2O, plus 1/2 bottle of water. What would you do differently?: I would do my anti-rain dance. Transition 2
Comments: Blazed this T. Everything went smooth. Everything went fast. What would you do differently?: Nuttin' honey. Run
Comments: Run was good. Mile 1: 6:58, ahr 162, mhr 226? Mile 2: 7:27, ahr 162, mhr 166 Mile 3: 7:22, ahr 160, mhr 163 Mile 4: 7:37, ahr 160, mhr 164 Mile 5: 7:27, ahr 161, mhr 164 Mile 6.2: 6:48, ahr 163, mhr 170 The last stretch from mile 5'ish to the finish was downhill. I had someone on my heels, so I pushed it really hard. He ended up passing me, but he wasn't in my AG so I let him go. I felt really strong on the run. I was running hard, but I wasn't going all out. I definitely had a bit more speed in me, but I didn't have it in me today to make it hurt all out. Still pulled off a new PR on a nicely rolling course. Took water at every stop, plus gatorade at two. Didn't use my gel. What would you do differently?: Make it hurt more. I know I can run faster. I need to keep up the mental focus in miles 2-4, that's where I slowed. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, stretched a bit. Cheered the rest of my club as they came in. What limited your ability to perform faster: Rain on the bike. Treated it as a C race, so I didn't bring my mental A game. Event comments: Great race. Beautiful location. Super friendly and helpful volunteers. It's a smaller race, so there's a lot more attention to detail. Definitely a race to do again ( and hope that it doesn't rain! ). Last updated: 2006-08-19 12:00 AM

Woke up to near torrential rains. Got dressed. Had clif bar and trader joes green goodness juice. Loaded bikes onto car. Grabbed a coffee ( two sugars ) to go.
Got totally lost trying to get to the race site. I gave up following the other people I was with and found a sign for the race. Got there with about an hour before race time.
Setup transition area. Put plastic bags over my running shoes so they would stay dry.
Due to getting lost, rain, etc, didn't get much of a warmup.
8' of biking, quick out and back, spinning, making sure every gear worked well. Had to adjust brakes as the rear was rubbing a little.
Got back to transition, found people trying to steal my spot despite my transition bag, towel, and wetsuit consicuously placed in front of the rack. Had about 20' to go so I slammed an espresso hammer gel. Mmmmmm, gooood.
Got wetsuit on. I think wetsuit has finally had it. A couple more tears in the sleeve catch panel now. It's almost more patchwork than actual wetsuit. I paid $100 for it 3 years ago, so I think I've got my money's worth from it.
Got in the water for a quick swim warmup and wetsuit warmup ( hehehe ). Did a couple out easy, back in hard laps. Water was great!
