Pre-race routine:

Got up very early after not enough sleep due to the weding recepetion after party being held in the hallway outside our hotel room. Ate the ususal Total and raisins. Got to the race 2nd overall. Quite a bit better than my finish.
Swim
  • 05m 53s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

Turned in very slow swim time estimate, therefore had to pass about five or six people which slowed me down some. Swam pretty well when I could.
What would you do differently?:

Obviously, turn in a more acurate swim time.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Didn't forget anyting, thank God. Just need to practice enough to develope some sort of routine. Kind of forgot the rules for a second and started to hop on the bike before the mount line.
What would you do differently?:

Bring a milk-crate to sit on.
Bike
  • 1h 09m 3s
  • 18 miles
  • 15.64 mile/hr
Comments:

Had fun. Calves started to cramp a little around mile 15. Tried to stretch them a few times the last couple miles, which definatley slowed me down. Took it easy for a little while around miles 10-12 thinking I should save a little for the run and trying to hold off ab cramping. Should have kept pushing.
What would you do differently?:

More time on the bike in training. Eat a few more bananas.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Rack was the first one. This worked great, because bike was as close as poss to swim exit. Even better, after bike leg had to get off and walk/jog bike through TA, so when I started the run I was ready to book it.
What would you do differently?:

Get a rack spot closer to center, if anything.
Run
  • 26m 17s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Had to stop 250 yds in and stretch cramping calves. Some abdominal cramping, probably due to the overeating before the race.
What would you do differently?:

Eat a little less before.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, stretched a little, and drank G'ade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Muscle cramping, definatley. Activities the day before the race and not enough sleep, probably.

Probably ate too much prior to race.
2x cereal at 4:40
yogurt at 6:00
yogurt at 6:55
gel at 7:35
1/4 orange at 7:40 started race at 7:54

Event comments:

This was my first and I had a blast. Good pool especially the exit, good bike with some tough but fun hills, tough run - not too good for knees. Great for a first race.
