Swim
Comments: It was a beach start which meant when the gun went off we all ran as fast as possible into the water. It felt like a big wave but thankfully the smacks/kicks weren't as bad as I expected. It was very wavy though which meant I had to stop a few times and figure out where I was. According to my Garmin I swam just under 2,000 yards at a 1:43 pace which I'm happy with. The official results show I swam a 2:07 pace but it was good enough for 4th in my AG and given the conditions I was happy with my performance. What would you do differently?: I tried to find some feet to follow but I decided I would be better off going at it alone. Swimmers were all over the place, myself included, but it made for a fun and challenging swim. Transition 1
Comments: We had a short run up a hill and there were wetsuit strippers which were great. I fumbled a little getting my socks and shoes on but overall this went pretty smooth. Having a good position on the rack and not having to find my bike was awesome! Bike
Comments: It was a fun course with a couple hills mixed in. For some reason I felt really tired on the bike and I had a hard time pushing my pedals. My avg speed was 19.6 mph which is slower than I was hoping for but I figure the swim tired me out more than expected. I drank 1 bottle of Hammer Perpetuem, ate 1 pack of energy jelly beans and had my aero bottle of water. I ran out of water at the end but thankfully it wasn't too hot out and I felt good coming into transition. What would you do differently?: My legs just didn't feel like biking which made for a long 40 miles. I had a cramp in my hip around mile 25 but thankfully that went away after a few miles. I'm not sure there was anything I could do differently but hopefully I have more energy next time around. Transition 2
Comments: I unclipped my shoes and had a pretty quick transition to my run shoes. The ground had a lot of loose stones so I'm glad I did this. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I was glad to be done with the bike and started off strong on the run. I didn't have a HR monitor for this race so I figure I spiked early which caused a few cramps and made me slow down on a couple of the uphills. Overall the run went somewhat similar to the bike, ok but nothing great and well below what I believe I can do. Post race
Warm down: I had 2 awesome brisket taco's and a muscle milk. I opted not to wait for a personal stretch and after seeing the results I grabbed my gear and hit the road. I was craving a cold beer and some R&R! What limited your ability to perform faster: Besides the swim I felt flat today. I have no idea why but it happens. I have a HIM in 1 month so hopefully I can get my mojo back for that race and have more motivation to push harder! Event comments: This race is a 10/10. The volunteers, organization, food, etc are all awesome! I highly recommend this race! Last updated: 2016-04-19 12:00 AM

Woke up just after 4AM and was on the road by 4:30. I ate a PB and honey sandwich, a banana and sipped on a bottle of Nuun on the drive up North. I always ask myself why I got into such a crazy sport on these lonely and painful drives! I knew the race was sold out and thankfully got to the race site early enough to get a good parking spot and great spot in transition (1st spot on the rack!).
I went for a quick swim and quickly realized it was going to be a long day in the water. The waves were really big which made sighting off the buoys nearly impossible. I took a salt tab and was feeling good and excited to go.
