Pre-race routine:

Coach came to the race and gave me a little pep talk/reminder/strategy speech. Even though I had read it the day before on TP, it helped to have it fresh in my head.
Event warmup:

Did more warmup than usual per coach:
take the bike out for 10 minutes with a few 1 minute race efforts.
jog 5 minutes, active stretch, jog 5 minutes with 20 second pickups

Running is not my thing. Coach said "remember, this should never feel easy."

So with that, I ran hard. I refused to look at my garmin and just went by feel. I made sure I could breathe and just pushed. And it hurt. My last 5K in March (although during my busiest time of year at work) was a 9:04 pace - blew this run up at 8:37!

This course is notoriously hill at about 72'/mile - only 15.8 miles and the longer hills are stacked in the first 8 miles. My goal on the bike course is to just GO LIKE HELL. My avg was 17.7 (2014 best was 17.3) so I'll take it!

Best moment: coach was standing at the final turn in the course. As I'm coming down the street I spot a woman in front of me I've been chasing for 5 miles or so. We got to the corner, she slowed down and I HIT the gas. ADIOS! Coming out of t2 she congratulated me on a good ride. And then she ran right past me LOL

Comments:

Hate running in my Speedplay cleats. I usually take my shoes off but the ground was wet because it rained earlier in the AM and I didn't want my socks to get wet.

I got to the run not really sure where I was in the ranking - the screen on my 910 during the bike was stuck on calibration so I didn't pay any attention to it. Goal - leave it all on the course. I think I did!

End of the race gave me a nearly 4 minute pr from my 2014 PR on this course. I'll take it!
Post race
Warm down:

Decent walk back to the car, changed, drank some vanilla soy milk, drove to breakfast!

Event comments:

Another HMF event. Well run, well organized and plenty of great volunteers.
