Swim
Comments: There were 145 scheduled to start in my wave. The first few hundred to the first buoy was really crowded. The usual hand fighting was at hand. My line to the first buoy was nice and straight per my Garmin. The second leg on the triangle was not so straight. I started catching people in the previous two waves. For some reason, everyone stopped at the last buoy we turned at for the swim home. I went too far inside and added some unnecessary distance. By my Garmin, I swam 991 yards. What would you do differently?: I don't know. Maybe train more in the open water. I'm an navigational mess in the water. Transition 1
Comments: Don't know what happened here. Lost a minute to the fastest guy in my group. Had a little problem getting my shoes on before I took off. Baffling. What would you do differently?: I don't know. I thought I was really organized for this race. Bike
Comments: Best speed at a triathlon ever. 21.5 miles per hour is the best I have ever sustained. The course is really fast but I had a really good session. My time just got faster and faster as the miles clicked by. Very pleased. Used my Speedfill to get my nutrition so I wouldn't have to get out of my aero bars. Worked like a champ. Ate one gel on the bike. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: This sucked. The person next to me racked her bike right on top of my running shoes. Someone further down took her spot since it was closer to the run out. I spent at least a minute trying to rack and get to my stuff. Terrible. What would you do differently?: Nothing I could do. Lost at least a minute here. Run
Comments: Lots of aid stations and water sprinklers to run through. Very appreciative of the extra water stations. I was able to dump water on my head to keep cool. Started out conservative and got faster each mile. I really felt good. One of my best times. The heat and humidity seemed to give alot of people issues but I just kept getting faster. What would you do differently?: Nothing except start a little faster. Post race
Warm down: Had a bottle of water and cooled down in the lake. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing. Pretty good outing for me. Event comments: The SWAG at this race is great. They really give you good stuff. It is very well run and there's a reason people come from all over the US to do this race. If you haven't done it, you should. You won't be sorry. Great race. Drove the bike course the day before. The asphalt is smooth and fast. Some rolling hills but nothing hard to deal with. Got up at 4am to take a shower before heading to the race site. Had a salt pill and drank an Ensure. We set up our transition area and got ready for the race.
Got in the lake and swam a few hundred yards. It was really warm in the water. I like it that way so it was all good. Went back up on the beach and waited for my wave. I was in the next to last wave so there was going to be alot of traffic to deal with during the race. They announced the air temp at 86 with 74% humidity at 7:30am prior to starting the race.
