Swim
Comments: From the start of the race I could not take a deep breath. It was very frustrating. I'm not sure if it was the wetsuit being too tight from the weight gain over the past 6 weeks or that I may be coming down with a cold. Either way, it made for a bit of an anaerobic swim. NOT FUN!! I started off to the left and had no traffic to deal with. Met up with the lead group at the first buoy and caught a draft for about 300 yds which allowed me to rest my legs a bit. What would you do differently?: Warm up more, at least 15-20 minutes with a couple of sprints. Transition 1
Comments: This was terrible! Peeled the wetsuit off without a problem until it came to the ankles. I could not get my fingers down the suit to peel it off. When I finally lifted my leg out of the suit my quad cramped. YOW!! Got my shoes on and ran out with the bike fine but the transition was already blown at that point. What would you do differently?: Practice getting my ankles out of the wetsuit more. Bike
Comments: My legs were burning from the start, could not get my HR down, never seemed to settle in at all. The 1st few miles seemed like it was all up hill. I could not get a comfortable speed. After a few miles I took a shot from the gel flask and dropped it. There goes the nutrition plan. I had planned on taking 3 shots of gel and drink from the neverreach on the bike to carry my through the run. I didn't bring any gatorade or other fluid replacement for a sprint distance. Mistake! HR finally started to get under control after about 10 miles. I really missed the gel shots!! What would you do differently?: Bring Gatorade and an extra gel flask just in case of unforseen problems. Transition 2
Comments: This was terrible as well. My fingers were frozen, I couldn't feel my toes and my legs felt terrible. Got my shoes on and tried to get them tied, that was a task. What would you do differently?: Practice my transitions, practice my transitions, practice my transitions!!!! Run
Comments: Legs were shot. I was cold, undernurished and today i didn't like hills! After 1 1/2 miles I actually had to stop and massage out a tibialis cramp. Ouch! I've been saying "OUCH!" alot today!! What would you do differently?: Pray for warmer conditions and run more!! Post race
Warm down: Massage, get dry, stretch a little and have coffee with Marmadaddy and Shanec. What limited your ability to perform faster: Weather, nutrition, not warming up enough. Event comments: A very well run race that I would highly recommend to anyone. Last updated: 2006-08-23 12:00 AM
