![]() Swim
Comments: I knew swimming was my toughest event. I survived and I'm happy with it. Didn't keep freestyle going more than 3/4 of it. Plenty of improvement to be made in going straight. What would you do differently?: Go straight. Practice more (I'm working on it). ![]() Transition 1
Comments: I kept the same bottoms the whole race. Had trouble getting my jresey on. I think I lost a gel from my pocket. I took my time, and that was fine with me. Oh, and I just used my running shoes in toeclips. What would you do differently?: Nothing. This was my first race, and transition was smooth. I wasn't going for speedy, just hoping for no big mistakes. I need to practice getting my jersey on while wet. ![]() Bike
Comments: There were a lot of bad roads. My seat came loose and I was on a rocking chair for the first 3 miles. Miraculously, it tightened back up, though not at a great angle. There were about ten miles that I was just flying! I charged down a hill and I was just off. I improved big time from when I had toured the course the week before. Overall I'm really happy with it. What would you do differently?: No tweaking bike for a week before the race! Don't overhydrate. My pee was crystal clear at the start of the run. Train more (always). ![]() Transition 2
Comments: I biked in running shoes, which helped. I also used a shoelace as my race belt, which worked great. Just racked, ripped off my jersey, grabbed my number and ran. What would you do differently?: I don't think anything. Smoothness, not speed, I think will be my goal in transitions until I'm vying for placement and have to drop seconds. ![]() Run
Comments: I was least worried about the run, so I let off on training a little too much. I had a good quarter-mile kick at the end, but mostly my mantra was, "keep going. Almost done." I wish I could have pushed just a little more, but I was pooped. This was a decent start place for a lot of improvement. What would you do differently?: I think that I was over-hydrated and under-nourished. Should have drunk less and taken another gel on the ride. ![]() Post race
Warm down: I was really tired and could hardly stand for the first five minutes. But I shouted, "I am a TRIATHLETE!" What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough training. (Wow, what a pessimistic question.) Event comments: I am a TRIATHLETE! Last updated: 2006-08-24 12:00 AM

Routine? This was my first tri!
Woke up at 5, ate banana, a little muesli, adjusted my bike seat (foreshadowing!), left for race.
Got there a little later than I wished. Got in long line for the potties.
Yeah right.
