Run
Comments: Holy c**p I broke 8 minute miles for the three miles, the fastest I ever gone for the distance, even though I felt slow for the first hlf of the run. At about the two mile mark I felt all of a sudden much faster and smoother, and that was going up a hill, which is just wrong, hills have alway ben my bain, but this one I felt like I accelerated up it easily. What would you do differently?: Warm up more and/or closer to the start, other that that a really good run. Transition 1
Comments: Got to bike and found one arm on my glasses broken. My Fault, knocked them to the ground like 3 times while setting up transition. But everthing whet fairly smoothly just not real fast. Rode the bike with glasses cockeyed, didn't really effect speed just a minor annoyance. What would you do differently?: Average time for me, but must get this time down, just be quicker with everthing. Next season hope to start with shoes on pedals. Bike
Comments: Holy s**t, I have no idea where this speed came from. My next fastest time barely broke 20 mph and that was on a 13 mile sprint. Started off with the speedo showing numbers in the low twenties and figured the wind must be different that forecast and at my back instead of on the nose. No flags around to check but finaly past a factory and the smoke said it was on the nose, but it was really light, when I got to the river it was glass smooth. So I figured that since last week I recalibrated my bike computer and I must have applied the adjustment the wrong way, or something like that, because I just don't bike this fast, so I just kept pedaling at a good hard effort. At mile 7 my right calf started twitching and cramping, every pedal revolution a twing so the ride was going like - Ouch ... Ouch ... Ouch ... Ouch ... OUCH ... OOOUUUCCCHHH at a nice 90-95 beats per minute. So I tried choosing other gears as different cadence or pedal force sometimes relieved the pain. Eventually it faded alittle just in time for the left calf to start up. So once again it was Ouch ... Ouch ... Ouch ... Ouch ... OUCH ... OOOUUUCCCHHH. Then the right calf decided to join in with the left so now it was Ouch.Ouch..Ouch..Ouch.OUCH.OOOUUUUCCCCHHH.##%$#ouch but now at a beeat of 180 per minute. I'm pretty sure I got some strange looks from the people I was passing as I found it helped to verballize my pain. Just accepted it as much as I could and pushed on. At a couple of points, when I accelerated to pass someone, the calves completely locked up and had to coast back and recover and try the pass again. Eventually I took to coasting the lower section of downhills and streching the calves as much as I could The course was really pretty, alot of the ride is on rural routes along the rier or tree covered. As I said before, the river was glass smooth and reflecting the early fall colors and the homes on the river. What would you do differently?: Differently? What are you kidding I need to figure out what I did right and do it again! Transition 2
Comments: Ran past spot, took alittle while to find my stuff, just not used to coming in to T2 with so few bikes on the rack. What would you do differently?: Be faster, learn in the off season get out of shoes while on bike and cyclecross dismount. Run
Comments: Going into the race I thought that a 1.3 mile run would be no big deal. But it didn't just hurt, it hurt alot. Calves, hamstrings, glutes, quads, and a few other I don't know the name of, complaied the whole way. In the end my pace was better than I thought it would be so I'm not unhappy with this run. By the way did I mention that it really hurt? What would you do differently?: I guess I could say I might back off on the last part of the bike to prepare fore the run, but that's not gonna happen. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, ate cookies. What limited your ability to perform faster: Got no answer for this one this time, I was alot faster than I should have been. Event comments: Eiter the planets were aligned just right or my biorthyms were peeking, or something, because I shouldn't have been near this fast. My optimistic time goal was 2:20 and more realistically I expected about 2:25 or so. So 2:11 just blows my mind. In case I wasn't clear about this I'm really happy with my time. Also 4/36 in the clydesdales is much higher than I've ever done before. Normally I'm middle to bottom-miidle of the pack. Yeah, yeah, yeah I shouldn't compare myself to others and it all depends on who shows up, yada yada yada, but its nice to see my name that high on the list and only 45 seconds from getting some hardware. BTW if I went AG 40-44 I would have been 22/46 but 13/46 on the bike, so I guess it's off to the track I go. Last updated: 2006-08-24 12:00 AM

Woke up, had white bread toast and jam, then a banana, on the drive down had a powerbar and sipped on some gatorade. Avoiding all fiber the morning of the race seemed to help alot as opposed to recent previuos races where I started with oatmeal.
jogged about a mile and a half with a few accelerations thrown in. Nice to get the blood flowing sice it was about 40 degrees about this time.
