Swim
Comments: Longest swim I have ever done by far. What would you do differently?: Practice more swimming Transition 1
Comments: Very happy to be out of the water. Took it easy in transition as I knew it would be a long race. What would you do differently?: Could have gone a little faster. Bike
Comments: Being from South Florida the first couple miles was kinda of a shock. Felt a cramp on my hamstring on the first hill and told myself to slow down. Got into an awesome grove on the bike and actually enjoyed the course, especially powering downhill. Tailwind was my main nutrition for my ride but also ate a banana and a couple granola bars from the aid stations. Got water and gatorade from the aid stations and added Tailwind concentrate to them. AT about mile 80 stomach was a little off so I stopped getting the gatorade and just used water and tailwind. GI felt better around mile 95. Took the last half of the course easy to save my legs. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I could not have asked for a better bike time. Transition 2
Comments: Decided to get out of my bike speed suit and into my run shorts and tang top. I am not a fan of running in my bike suit. What would you do differently?: Get a new tighter fitting run top. Run
Comments: Perfect day for a run. Started the run at too fast of a pace for the first 7 miles. Around mile 10 my body was telling me to slow down, so I walked the balance of the aid stations. Drank mostly coke and gatorade at the aid stations. Dumped ice water on my head to keep the pace going. My wife made a huge surprise for me as my family and friends where there cheering me on for the entire race. Really feel that boosted my energy for my entire race. Had my two daughters watching and really wanted them to be proud of their dad. The last 3-4 miles felt great and I was running at my best pace. Was within 20 seconds of 8th place but started the push on the run a mile to late. What would you do differently?: Walk a tiny bit less at the aid stations. Post race
Warm down: Felt great after the race. Gave hugs and kisses to my family and friends and just kept walking around for about twenty minutes. My family got me post race food, but was not able to eat anything till a few hours after. Event comments: Great Floridian is an awesome and tough race. With tons of hills there is no chance of drafting. Last updated: 2016-10-24 12:00 AM
