Swim
Comments: Started out nice and easy and felt pretty good. Made it to first bouy easily. Had to stop one time before bouy to wipe the fog from goggles. Getting to the second one was a little trickier. Seemed to take forever, and had a bit of a hard time staying straight. Kept going a little too far inside, but it worked out perfectly because I was right at the bouys when it came time to take the turn. I was so close I could have touched both of them. Confidence also kept building up as I kept passing people from earlier swim waves! Even think I caught up to a green cap from the Oly... :) What would you do differently?: This is the longest continuous swim I've ever done, so I would practice more. Just think how fast I could be if I practiced more... :) I need to site better. Choked once on water because I looked up wrong and maybe got water splashed up in my face from another swimmer? Transition 1
Comments: Had suit top down before got to transition area. Got wetsuit off pretty easily, thanks to some help. Felt like I was taking too long getting my socks and shoes on. Tried standing to do it, but had to sit because I was too winded. Ran out with the bike OK. What would you do differently?: just need more experience with this. but felt it went as well as it could have. Bike
Comments: Still my weakest sport of the 3. Rode well for me, though. Passed many on mt. bikes, but many passed me on good road bikes. I felt pretty comfortable with my gear changing. Once or twice probably didn't/shouldn't have done it, so maybe wasted some time with that. Felt stonger on the bike so was able to keep bike straighter/steadier than have in past races. Taking corners still nerve racking for me so I tend to slow down maybe more than I need to? What would you do differently?: Need a better bike, but mostly need to keep working on getting stronger by getting out there more and do some weight training. Transition 2
Comments: This transition went fairly well. Took a few seconds to stretch my quads before I took off. What would you do differently?: Don't do shoe changes so not much to do. Maybe could have undone bike helmet strap while I was running with it, but, what, that would have saved me 1 sec.? Run
Comments: My right foot was numb the entire run, but I felt great otherwise. There is no better motivation for me than being able to pass people, and for some reason, I was passing people left and right pretty much the entire time. Just kept me going. The sun was in my eyes for awhile which irritated me. And with about 1/2 mile left I really was wishing the run to be over with. I was sooooooo glad that I was able to turn right and head to the finish rather than do another lap! What would you do differently?: Not sure. Probably running the course ahead of time would have been helpful because I kept wondering where in the hell I was going and when it was going to end. Or maybe ignorance is bliss. I ran fast because for some reason I was thinking the end was nearer than it really was. I hated having to run to the end of the pier before we could officially head for home. Post race
Warm down: Family greeted me at the finish line. No real warm-down. Drank 2 bottles of water. I never seem to be hydrated enough for my races. What limited your ability to perform faster: Doing more (any) bricks would be good. Getting out on the bike more and swimming longer distances continuously would help too. Event comments: Thought things at the beginning were confusing. "What do you mean I can't park my bike until I get marked? Where do I get marked? Who can answer my I'm not a male! question?" But, it was also my very first time at this race and only my 2nd tri ever, so probably just my ignorance of things didn't help. Last updated: 2006-08-26 12:00 AM

Got up around 5:15. Tyler complaining that he didn't feel well so I took his temp and it was elevated. Gave Motrin, put him back to bed and got on with things. Ate raisin bran, sip or two of juice. Decided to wait to put contacts in because they burned my eyes that early. Loaded the car up and left about 7 min. to 6.
Hardly any warm-up at all. Thought things were a little confusing and not as organized as could have been when I first got there, but I was worried about not getting the right times since they originally had me down as a male. Stood in a line for a little bit to see if I could make sure it was sorted out, but then gave up and decided if it was an issue I'd deal with it after the race. Did a little jog to and from swim area to transition after the Oly guys got off. Also got in the lake for about 30 sec before they pulled us back out to get started.
