Swim
Comments: Checking out this swim course from shore, it looked REALLY long. Not to mention that I overheard one of the USAT officials comment that it looked a bit too long. The Team Magic guy replied that it wasn't, but I was already intimidated by that point. That said, I started out the swim feeling unsettled & nervous. I felt like I couldn't get my body/breathing under control and was having some negative thoughts about my abilities. Suddenly I looked up and realized I was already at the first buoy and instantly began to feel better. By the end of the swim I was in a good groove and finished strong. What would you do differently?: Chill out! This is all SUCH a mindgame! Need to warm up. Transition 1
Comments: It was a long haul from the swim to transition, but thankfully that was just extra time for the sand to fall off my feet. I had a water bottle there to squirt off my feet and that worked well. The biggest problem was that I kept losing my balance as I tried to stand on one foot to put my bike shoes on. What would you do differently?: Need to think about which direction would be most efficient for me to rack my bike (pointed towards me or away from me). Bike
Comments: I felt like I was running out of steam by the end of the bike. What would you do differently?: Train harder. Put something other than plain water in my bottles. Transition 2
Comments: This is the transition where I passed the chip to my relay teammate. I ran in, racked my bike, then ran over to the relay tent with my helmet and shoes still on. I'm not sure if it would have taken me longer to change my shoes vs passing off the chip. Hard to tell. What would you do differently?: Heal my knee so I can run!! What a bummer! At this point, I really wanted to keep going, but my knee was bugging me just running around in transition. Next year... Run
Comments: My relay teammate completed the run. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and had some Gatorade. Waited an hour or so before having any snacks, didn't feel hungry. Watched everyone finishing the run, that was neat. What limited your ability to perform faster: I had originally trained for a sprint, which occurred 3 wks before Music City. I had a great time at the sprint and wanted to do another race. So I cranked up my training and injured myself. Nice. Next year I'm going to train properly and come back strong. Event comments: A great challenging course. I look forward to improving next year. 5am, ate toast and peanut butter. Drank a Gatorade on the drive up there.
PLEASE NOTE: I did the first two legs of a relay in this race due to an IT band injury. In all "Age Group" rankings in this report, I have compared myself to the other Beginner Female athletes, even though I actually raced in the Corp Relay category.
