![]() Swim
What would you do differently?: Get out in front so I don't have to swim over people. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: T1 sucked. It was a long swim through the soft sand to the T-area. Why they make us run on the beach thru the sand is beyond me. This is why my T-time was so slow...I tell you, my calves were burning and my HR was sky high by the time I got to my bike! ![]() Bike
Comments: Pretty damn happy with my bike time considering I was on my road bike, sans aerobars. :) I was in the drops the whole time though. The only people that passed me were fast male age-groupers. No women passed me. Schweet! I basically pounded as hard as I could go on the bike. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Decent transition. Sat on grass to put socks on- I don't care about the extra time. It's worth it to NOT get blisters. Somehow I managed to get 2 or 3 anyways...oh well. Had some trouble fixing my sock, which got jammed in my shoe, so that took some extra time. I missed the first water station b/c I was busy fixing my sock. GRRR!!! ![]() Run
Comments: That's funny my run/bike times are like exactly the same. What can I say- the run is where I struggle the most. I get passed by everybody. It just plain sucks. I think I passed 2 girls the entire time. The run was BRUTALLY hot- very little shade. My HR was very high- I was very out of breath the whole run, probably b/c I went as fast as I could on the bike. But, I just tried to keep my legs turning over at a quicker rate, and focused on counting down the miles to the finish line. I kept thinking to myself, how the hell am I going to run 13.1 miles in November for my first HIM? But, I guess a HIM is a completely different animal- I'm going to be killing myself on the bike- I'll be going much slower. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Drank some water, endurance gatorade and stood under this cold fountain, which felt like HEAVEN. Changed into dry clothes, even though they were covered in sweat in about 10 minutes. Ate a banana and a raisin bagel. Talked to Janice and Bill at the So. Fla. Hammerheads tent. Event comments: Great race- it's been so long since I raced- St. Anthony's was my last race- that it made me realize I miss racing! Now, I don't want to be like Aaron and race EVERY weekend, :) but I'm definitely going to start entering some more races. This week was a very tough week for me, with starting my new job and dealing with other stresses that really brought me down in the dumps. This race was the perfect thing for me to pick me back up and get my spirits going again. Thanks to Barry for being a wonderful jockstrap as always- we left the camera at home this time, so sorry, no pics. Just wanted to enjoy the race and be in the moment instead of worrying about taking pics. Last updated: 2006-08-27 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5:20 a.m., ate Kashi cereal w/ strawberries. Stuff was already packed in the car, which I did last night (makes life SO much easier) and off we drove to Key Biscayne- about a 35 minute drive.
None! I got there about 20 mins from the start time, AND I had to pick up my packet! By the time we walked to the swim start, my wave was the 2nd one to go off. I didn't even have time to pee in the water! :(
