Pre-race routine:

D was away. Times off my watch. Got up and checked out of the hotel drove to race site and got set up. Ate my PBJ, drank my DC. Didn't see anyone I knew. Went down to swim start and got my wetsuit on. I was in the first wave
Event warmup:

Nada.
Swim
  • 39m 6s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

I am pleased wit this. Everyone was WAY to the right of the course. I think I navigated well. A few peeps from the next wave passed me and I tried to draft off them.
What would you do differently?:

nothing. Swim faster? I think it went pretty well
Transition 1
  • 04m 41s
Comments:

Its a LONG skinny transition area. I was close to the bike out so it was a LONG way. I used a race belt because I have a place for my cell phone and didn't want to leave it in transition. Belt, helmet and glasses on, no socks shoes on bike
What would you do differently?:

Be able to run? Running sans brace on concrete is no bueno for my knee
Bike
  • 3h 41m
  • 56 miles
  • 15.20 mile/hr
Comments:

This was just fucking awful. I did make some rookie mistakes,

Rookie mistake #1-I could not get my bento box to open. the zipper was stuck so I didn't use any of my gels. I had 1/2 a banana at one aide station

Rookie mistake #2-I ran out of fluids. I had brought 60oz with me I probably got 50 of that. At the last aide station I looked at my aerobottle and thought I had enough but I ran out with 12 miles to go.

I thought I did Ok the first hour or so. Thought I handled the hills better than last year. The wind ate me up. My knee started hurting probably about mile 30ish or so and just got worse the more I tried to push harder. I am SO not happy about that. By mile 46 or so I just want to be done. I was moving ever so slowly. Honestly really fucking pathetic overall.
What would you do differently?:

I need to ride outside more. I need to loose weight and figure out my knee and what to do about it.
Post race
Warm down:

I was not feeling great. Thirsty nauseous and dizzy. Re-racked and sat and put my shoes on then walked thru the finish to get my medal and visor. Had a piece of pizza and some fritos which I figured was a the saltiest thing they had. I didn't see any RWB peeps and no one in the VIP area so I just left.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of outside biking, fat, wind, nutrition ooppssies

Event comments:

This is a good race. They do a nice job. I do really hate the transition area tho.
