Swim
Comments: I never have good swims but this was a pretty bad swim for me. There was a lot of contact early and then again in the middle of the swim. There was a few times where I had to stop completely as I just got tangled with someone else. This isn't really a big deal except I just don't have the swim endurance to stop and go like that. My sighting was pretty bad and I started to really get tired. I decided to back way off the pace and just relax until the finish and make it up on the bike. What would you do differently?: I am actually starting to enjoy swimming and this was great motivation to work hard this winter on improving. I just need to move into Seth's basement :) Transition 1
Comments: The transition went fine. I was running a little to slow at first coming from the water but gradually came out of the daze and picked up the pace. What would you do differently?: Run faster earlier Bike
Comments: I honestly didn't have a game plan for the bike. Go hard and see what I had left for the run or back off and try to have a good run. I decided to just try and stay smooth and never push any one section too hard. I saw Dan early on, Jo about 20 min later and Kathy right at the end and they all looked very strong. The early part of the ride was fun as I was catching a lot of people. But then I hit a long stretch where there was just no one behind me and no one ahead of me. I got a little lazy at this point and backed off the pace. Soon enough I saw someone up the road and picked up the pace again. For whatever reason I had trouble focusing on going fast. I wasn't tired, I would just lose focus at times. But I have to say this was a great bike course and I had great time. The bike is definately my favorite part What would you do differently?: In retrospect I could have gone much harder as I felt way to good on the run but these things are always difficult to judge. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition...no comments Run
Comments: For the first time this season, I had a really good run off the bike. As soon as I started running, I was pretty sure I had good legs but took it a bit conservative the first mile coming through at 7:00. I decided to push the pace a little and came through mile 2 at 6:36. From there I decided I could maintain that pace and stayed between 6:30 and 6:40 all the way to the finish. It was by far the best I have felt on the run all season and if this is my last tri of the season, it was an awesome way to finish it up What would you do differently?: Nothing, other than push harder on the bike so I didn't feel quite this good :) Post race
Warm down: Grabbed some water and did a little strecthing. Went over to everyone else to see the other BT finishers. What limited your ability to perform faster: As always, I am a lousy swimmer :) Event comments: This is a great race and I will definately be back next year. It was the first race where I got my nutrition and running where I wanted them to be (hmmm, think there is a link between the two :) ) It was great to have all of the other BT'ers there and see them out on the course. It makes the day so much more fun. Last updated: 2006-08-28 12:00 AM

I drove up the morning of the race with Seth, Dan and his sister so it was a pretty early start. It was nice having company on the way up and Seth driving made the morning even easier. We arrived about 7:00, plenty of time for number pick-up and to set-up transition
I usually run a fair bit before the start but transition was closing and I didn't bring a second pair of running shoes so I did a little warming up by running barefoot on the grass. I put on the wetsuit about 15 min before my wave started.
