Swim
Comments: Little swimming the prior few months and it showed. Every time I tried to pick it up I seemed to get out of breath. I finally settled in about 1/2 way through to a comfortable pace, but it was not very fast. What would you do differently?: Swim more! I started in January increasing my swimming and was doing well through March with repeat 100 times in the mid 1:20s, but then barely swam due to job change, etc. Transition 1
Comments: OK transition. Had a bit of trouble getting my right shoe on, but not too bad. Bike
Comments: Did not use my race wheels as the constant rolling hills negated a significant benefit from them. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: Someone racked their bike in my spot, so I had to move one over, which caused some confusion and delay. Jogged out with a water as planned - poured it down my back mostly. Run
Comments: I wanted to run 8 min/mile pace, so happy that I hit it pretty close. I walked through the last water stop, which probably cost me that 14 seconds! My toe started hurting about half way through and it turned out I had cut the bottom of my middle toe (I assume getting out of the water). Ouch. What would you do differently?: Not walk through the last water stop! Post race
Warm down: First time in my 40+ years of racing that I ever went to the medical tent post race! They cleaned my cut and put a band-aid on. What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor swim caused by lack of good swim fitness. Event comments: Well run race as usual. Great weather this year too! Last updated: 2017-06-22 12:00 AM
