Swim
Comments: The swim went well for me. This is my weakest sport, so I was pleased with my performance. I had to pass quite a few people despite swimming at the pace that I asserted I would in registration. What would you do differently?: Put a faster swim time down so I don't have to worry about passing people! Transition 1
Comments: This was the worst part of the race for me! My hair got stuck in my ponytail holder! It probably took me 45 seconds to get it out. What would you do differently?: explore other hair options.. braid maybe? Bike
Comments: I am just not a great biker, and this course really cemented that further. I struggled to maintain a good pace on the flatter parts of the course due to the rougher than normal roads. I felt like this portion of the race wore me out more than it should. I was also very nervous staying in aero on turns. I was nervous on this bike period, as it was my first time ever riding it. What would you do differently?: Practice more on the tri bike, put more miles in on the trainer, get comfortable in aero position. Transition 2
Comments: Much better on the second transition! Everything was seamless and went according to plan. What would you do differently?: Nothing! Run
Comments: I felt great on the run! I had a very good pace, and I drank just enough water. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: The bike and first transition! Event comments: I wasn't a huge fan of this race. I liked the pool swim; it was well organized. Everything else was a mess though. People were in and out of transition and getting in the way of athletes, there wasn't enough room on the bike racks for all of the bikes, the volunteers seemed mostly disinterested and were rude, and the bike course felt dangerous because there were cars everywhere and there weren't a lot of markers telling you where to go. At one point, a group of volunteers walked in front of me on the road. I had to slam on my brakes, and they just looked at me and kept walking . The police officers were much nicer than the volunteers! There were children manning most of the aid stations on the run, which is totally fine normally!, but they weren't actually passing out water. They were just talking amongst themselves and playing on their phones. You had to grab the water cups on your own. The race just didn't seem to have the excitement and support that most races do. Hopefully they can improve upon it next year! Last updated: 2017-07-07 12:00 AM
