Run
Comments: My longest run before this was a 10K. My plan was to run the first 10K and then walk as needed. Once I hit the 10K marker, each step was a new PR. I struggled from miles 7 to 10, but ran with a few 40-50 women and we pushed each other. they were very supportive! Once I hit the 10 mile mark, I knew I could actually run a Half Marathon, so I pushed harder than ever before. Before I knew it- the race was over and I actually finished without walking. What a great high. What would you do differently?: Belive in myself and ignore any self doubt. That being said, I would pass on the beer the night before the run. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and chatted with my new friends. Streached well, ate a few bagels and drank h2o. What limited your ability to perform faster: self doubt! Event comments: This race allowed for major self reflection. Considering that this is my first year of running and tris, I feet it has been great. Losing 40 pounds, quitting smoking and enjoying exercise in a year is a great feeling. I now know that I can set MAJOR goals, train hard, and accomplish them. One more Tri and the year is done. Pre-race started the night before the race with too many beers at a local festival. In retrospect, I was way undertrained for a Half Marathon and was looking for an excuse to walk.
Upon arrival I was intimidated my the number of racers with shirts from other marathons.
Drove in bad fog but arrived early enough to pick up my packet and walk around, strech, and chat with the other runners.
