Run
Comments: Took 35 mins off race time from 2016! It was much better doing this course for the second time as I began to remember where the steep bits were and understanding how much energy would need to be conserved at the beginning. The first 12 km have some very steep ascents and descents before the significant long and unrelenting ascent for the next 16 km is to the saddle between the two rivers. Felt that I organised hydration, fuel and energy expenditure to match the terrain. Having got to the saddle feeling very good I launched myself down the other side as the first 5 km from the high point are on stable ground with that perfect downhill angle that means you can run very quickly, very easily and not smash the quads too much! What would you do differently?: Was cautious at the start to assess where the R) Pes Anserinus and the L) hamstring injuries were at. This meant being a bit slower over the first 12 km where there are numerous steep ascents and descents. Without these recent injuries I could have pushed a bit more right from the start. Post race
Warm down: Free beer! What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing on race day. Event comments: Excellent race! Great countryside, brilliantly organised. Might even be back for a 3rd go in 2019! Last updated: 2017-07-14 12:00 AM

Usual pre race breakfast but as it's a 2 1/2 hour bus ride to the start I also took an extra banana and Cliff Bar for consumption on the way.
Applied some Denco Rub to the left hamstring and had a short run just to ensure that the hydration vest and equipment was securely fastened and not going to rub anywhere.
Importantly, did not do any stretching at all!
