Swim
Comments: Decent start, but kept veering towards rope. Had a slow turn around boat and then on return swim kept swimming into other swimmers as there were several I was boxed in with. What would you do differently?: Not too much on the swim out. On the return I might have been better off going wide at the outset, getting around the group and then cutting back towards the rope. Transition 1
Comments: No issues. A little slower in transition due to removal of wetsuit. What would you do differently?: Well, having the wetsuit helped the swim, so dealing with its removal in T1 was a draw back to using it for the swim. Overall, the seconds lost in T1 were made up by better swim time. Bike
Comments: A decent ride. The course was set up for a fast ride. I never was able to get into my highest gears though. Not my best ride of the year in terms of speed. This being the 4th of 4 triathlons in 4 straight Saturdays, my legs were not as fresh as I would have liked. What would you do differently?: Take a week off between races to have fresher legs for the race. Transition 2
Comments: No issues. Run
Comments: I struggled to get going the first mile as I was only 7:42. Got my legs back in mile 2, but didn't push the pace right away (7:32). As I started the last mile picked up the pace and finished stronger at 7:15. What would you do differently?: Left about 15-20 seconds out there. Settled in too quickly in part because I saw no one around me for the first mile +. As I got into second half of second mile, had someone come into sight and was able to chase. I think I need to come up with a way to push pace in run when no one is around me. Post race
Warm down: Not much other than talk with fellow finishers. Walk around, stretch a bit. Recover. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think racing in 4 consecutive races caught up with me a bit today. Good effort that could have been great with better rest coming in. Event comments: This is one of my favorite races because they check all of the boxes. Nice venue, awesome race director, nice awards, great food after race, plenty of volunteers. I recommend this race to anyone who wants to have a positive race experience. Only drawback is it is on the same day as many other local races (Culver and Huntington). Kudos to race director for changing bike course from years past. New route was much nicer. Last updated: 2017-08-12 12:00 AM
