Swim
Comments: Swim was good in general, but my sighting was really, really bad on the leg headed back to the shore. I couldn't see the buoys at all due to teh rising sun, which caused me to swim significantly more than the course (2300yds according to my garmin). Happened both times, which was frustrating. What would you do differently?: pick something on shore to sight off of on the way in. Transition 1
Comments: T1 is the bright spot of the day. Even with the added complication of having to bag everything up before exiting, I hit my stretch goal time. What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: Herein comes the DNF. I knew something was wrong with my right foot from about mile 2 on the bike. There was a burning sensation in my right shin and foot on each down stroke. I told myself I had to do at least two loops before I could think about quitting. I wasn't going to give up easily. After two loops, it was feeling better, but then on the third loop, there was a shooting pain in my ankle/lower leg. I had to call it after that. Stopped at the aid station and got a ride back to T2 on the back of a pickup truck. What would you do differently?: I don't know. I'm not sure there is anything I could do about the foot thing. It just didn't seem to be my day. Transition 2
Run
Post race
Event comments: Even though I didn't finish the race, it feels like it was a good race. The swim started on time (which is the first time I've been part of a RMR productions race that started on time). There were tons of very enthusiastic volunteers on the bike course. One drawback, especially if you are doing the intermediate race, is that they close the park entrance/exit for five hours (9am-1:30pm). By the time I got back to the finish area, there were people lined up to get out (and some were pretty angry). Post-race food sucked (granola bars, pringles, water). Last updated: 2017-08-17 12:00 AM

It was COLD and breezy. Most of the pre-race "routine" centered around trying to keep warm, whether that be sitting in the car or huddled in T1 behind a small wind break. I did spend some time checking out the swim course, but that was futile.
Basically none.
