Pre-race routine:

My awesome coach gave me guidance here. I ate 3 hours before the race, on the way to the race, drank coffee, drank c4 an hour before the race and some cliff chews. I parked my car 1.5 miles from the race and felt very smart riding my bike to the venue rather than walking. I don't like walking.
Event warmup:

AHEM, Well...I was supposed to do a mile warm-up run and some swimming but fate and my terrible sense of direction had other ideas. I forgot my inhaler in my car and figured I'd use the warm up to go get it. At that point, I thought the car was only about a half mile, maybe a mile away. Nope. 1.5 miles, and I got lost on the way back.

I almost gave up honestly. I almost cried. When I reached the beach start, they were singing about America and whatnot ( I love the USA...not trying to be disrespectful) and I had to be incredibly rude and walk through people because they were about to close the transition area. I had to opt out of wearing my wetsuit for the swim because I was so late! My poor feet were not happy with me at this point either after a 3 mile warm up in the wrong shoes.

I'm really surprised I did this well without a wetsuit. I completely love swimming. It's glorious.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. First time I've said that. I got jostled around a ton between two beauties in wet suits. Eventually they were gone and I realized they were behind me after about 150-200 yds. I then started counting caps of the wave that left before me. I followed coach's advice and stayed calm and stuck to the plan. I didn't stop swimming until the water was halfway up my calf.

Sadly, I had buckled my helmet to my bike for some reason, so I had to retrieve that. Pretty smooth otherwise. Also, I had to hunt for my glasses because I had tossed them in my bag when I ran off to make my swim wave.
What would you do differently?:

Set up my area a little more thoroughly. I think a lot of this had to do with the inhaler debacle. I'm sure I would have caught that with more time. Everything else was ready. Socks powdered, etc. I love my old crappy bike shoes. So easy to get in and out of and run in!

I think I put my bike in my neighbor's spot so I felt like a jerk. I fixed it before they got back. I was shocked to see so few bikes back already. This is when it hit me that I could place if I followed coach's plan.

Rack my bike correctly!

This was a 5K PR for me! My previously documented PR was 28:44 at a standalone 5K. Also a hilly route. CannIgetta flat standalone 5k plz?
What would you do differently?:

Coach says I ended a bit hard on the bike even though the rest was chill. So I'd calm the frick down at the end of the bike to set myself up for a better run start.
Post race
Warm down:

I walked around in a daze, met a bunch of cool ladies, stretched, took selfies. I printed out my race receipt and was like, "WHOA, I PR'd!!!" then I ate a veggie burger and made more friends. Friends who took my race photo for me. Thanks friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not a real taper before the race because my "A" race is Aquathlon Nationals on Oct.1 and this race was to help me train for that along with being a wonderful race on its own.

Event comments:

Great post race activities...did I mention I won a pair of Rudy Project glasses for dancing?! Fantastically run race. The only thing I'd change is to have volunteers very aware of the parking situation and perhaps have one volunteer maybe on a bike helping lost souls like myself.

The bike was hillier than I thought it would be for sure. This is a training race so I was instructed to hold back on the bike. That honestly made it super fun. Uphill I was like, "la la la" and downhill I was like "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" MUCH slower than my normal bike and coach says my HR was at a cool 125 so I did well following orders.

I was super surprised to have a portion run on the grass. It almost got me down but I handled it.
