Swim
Comments: What a crap swim. It was very choppy, something I wasn't used to, so I spent a lot of time drinking water on this swim. I though I did better than my last tri, but I was a fulll 3 minutes slower. Go figure. I also drafted very poorly, so got a good 50 yards off course and had to come back. The only consolation is that my class winner (5th overall) only swam a 2:05/100 yards, so everyone struggled. Bottom line: I need to spend way more time in OWS practice. And get a wetsuit. What would you do differently?: Sight much better. Simply find a groove and learn to ignore the waves. Transition 1
Comments: Kind of a long run to T1, took maybe a minute. Then problems getting socks on, had to pin on my race jersey b/c I forgot my race belt. That probably cost me a minute. What would you do differently?: Find and use my race belt. Not wear socks?? Bike
Comments: Wanted to take it a bit easier on the ride and make sure I had some gas left for the run. Did ok, but my average speed was way lower than I'd hoped. I simply didn't really make up very much room on the competition on this portion. The hill was pretty challenging, since I only averaged about 6mph for the 10+ minutes it took to climb it. I did pass some guys on it, though, and got passed by a couple. I didn't push at the end and got passed by 3 guys. I simply didn't want to bonk during the run like my last tri, so figured I'd catch my breath at the end of this ride. What would you do differently?: Train for hills more. I should have been able to average a higher speed on that one... Transition 2
Run
Comments: Well, had hoped to come in under 9 minute mile and missed that. Was a little disappointed in my run, although I improved a lot compared to my first tri. Kept good form, never stopped and passed a couple guys. What would you do differently?: Just dig down deeper and push more. Post race
Warm down: Bent over and nearly threw up. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim: Poor swimming technique. I have the stamina to do that distance much faster; the high waves also thew me a lot as I sucked down a lot of water. Bike: Strategically I decided to tone it down a bit. Not sure if that was a mistake or not. Could have pushed harder and probably knocked a couple minutes off the bike. Run: Just need to relax my breathing and dig deeper for more speed. Event comments: Well, my 2nd tri is over. It was rather disappoining, to be honest. I'd hoped to improve a lot in my swim and run, and only marginally improved the latter. It exposed my weaknesses, though, and has given me a lot of reason to train this off season. Last updated: 2006-08-29 12:00 AM

Ate a bagel and peanut butter. Got to the race (it was COLD) and walked around with the Ipod.
