Overall Rank = 148/340

Age Group Rank = 6/22
Pre-race routine:

Hotel breakfast opened before 5:30. Tea, oatmeal with blueberries and scrambled eggs. Dressed for the race and packed up as much of the hotel room as I could.
Event warmup:

Standing around and making multiple trips to the porta potty with no luck.
Swim
  • 29m 37s
  • 1000 meters
  • 02m 58s / 100 meters
Comments:

Slow going down the ramp for the time trial start. Normal too fast, too anxious start. Didn't get into a rhythm and calm down until close to the first buoy. Googles with so scratched up I could barely see through them. Spent way too much time bobbing up trying to see where I was going. Slowed me way down. Otherwise swam ok considering very, very little swim training.
What would you do differently?:

New lenses for my goggles. Just swim more.
Transition 1
  • 03m 30s
Comments:

Feed wet and muddy. Maybe took too much time cleaning them off. Hill up to T1 maybe could have run faster. But it all went ok. Found my bike quickly. Placement was good.
Bike
  • 1h 35m 59s
  • 29 miles
  • 18.13 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good on the bike. Used Betty so I would feel more comfortable. She was wearing my race wheels. Passed a lot of people. Was ready for the hills. One hill I didn't notice, I had no memory of it. Roads a little wet from the rain. But not too bad.
What would you do differently?:

Ride my TT bike on cheap seal. Get a LOT more time on that bike. Would love to have this speed in the half next year. It's possible.
Transition 2
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

Went by pretty fast. Not much in transition to do. Rack bike, take off bike gear, put on shoes and grab visor and go.
What would you do differently?:

Just pick it up a little. Or take the time to calm down before heading into the run, which isn't easy.
Run
  • 1h 04m 35s
  • 6.4 miles
  • 10m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

It was getting hot, fast out there. Felt like I was going up hill both ways. Felt so hot and tired. Kept slowing down.
What would you do differently?:

Considering I'm getting back into speed since being injured most of the year, this went ok. Next year will be better. Maybe do more speed work and longer bricks.
Post race
Warm down:

Drink and eat and the BEST shower.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

More training.

Event comments:

Well run race with a good course. Can't wait to do the half next year.
