Run
Comments: Started the run back from the pace sign. Apparantly alot of people had the sub 4 goal like I did. I felt a tad like I was at the Peachtree trying to get up to the pace group. Saw my spectators within the first 5k and then again as i was heading out on the long stretch out of the city back until the half way point. Finally caught up to the pace people at mile 8ish...stayed with them for about a mile and half but realized I was feeling good so kept with my original pace the rest of the way to the half. (1:54:14). did the math and realized I was still on par for hitting my super secret goal of 3:55..just had to keep up the pace. Somewhere along the way I meet up with Aldrin..that was great getting to run with a fellow Get-Fitter. We ran together for quite awhile...It was great running through the Mexican areas of town because Aldrin is from Mexico and had a bandana on so everyone kept cheering for us in Spanish..i loved it! Kept my mind off of the fact we were getting closer to 20 miles.. Ran into my race support again and again and at mile 20 was searching for familiar faces because I was getting tired. Found them at 21 and they even got some pictures. Mom jumped in and ran alittle with me which was awesome. I took off and knew i couldnt quite keep my pace but knew my incentives and HAD to hit my goal...Coming on the home stretch I caught up with James (another Get Fitter) and he was having some cramping issues..tried to encourage, but it was hard seeing that I was tired as well:) But I encouraged and then kept right on. The last 800 meters was great..there was a hill I think, but I didnt care because I knew the finish line was right there. Crossed it and realized I had superceded my initials goals by a mile and even my secret goal by a minute:) Searching for friends in that large of a crowd can be overwhelming but finding a friend was priceless after a great race. Definitely Definitely the race of a lifetime (thus far) Gu'd at 7, 13.1, 17, and 21 Only Water on course 5k 28:49 10k 54:54 15k 1:21:40 20k 1:48:24 Half Split 1:54:14 25k 2:15:19 30k 2:42:36 35k 3:11:41 40k 3:41:04 Chip Time 3:54:03 What would you do differently?: Nothing...except run faster of course:) Post race
Warm down: Took some pictures with Bethany and Ron and waited on the course for awhile until the cold came over us and we headed to Palmer House to meet up with our Support Staff:) What limited your ability to perform faster: Perhaps the cold? But i can't really complain because I was thankful it wasnt snowing... Event comments: Well I definitely left Chicago with some hugs/looks/runs/dances/pictures/medals...of a lifetime. Great race...can't wait for what is next... Last updated: 2006-08-30 12:00 AM

Well to say I was focused is a bit of an understatement this weekend. I was laid back Thurs/Friday...but once I got my Marathon Jacket...I knew it was game time. Saturday night at the Get Fit pasta party I tried to relax..but the nerves were making me all but anxious to get back to the hotel. Had some good pre-race pep talks...a little pasta/bread and lots of water. Was alittle nervous about the logistics of the morning and getting to the Palmer House, but it all worked out. Laid out all of my gear, packed my post race bag and was asleep by 9 or 930 with no problems.
Got up at 5am, hit a quick shower to wake up and started in on my 16 oz of water. Downed my Mixed Berry Nutri-grain and quit the water at 6am sharp so I wouldnt have to stop for the bathroom on the course. Met Kimsey in the lobby and picked up Bethany...made it to the Palmer house with no issues.
At the Palmer House took pictures...Joey led a small group prayer..calmed my nerves but I was anxious to go ahead and get out there.
The even warmup was trying to get to the bag check..by weaving in and out of people (thanks Ron for getting me out of there alive). Found the 3:55 pace group..had one last pep talk and was ready to go. Tucked myself in between some tall guys to stay warm and shed the Walmart Sweats pre race. The cold didnt really affect my determination to get this race going.
