Run
Comments: My main objective was simply to beat last month's time which is very low hanging fruit since I was coming off being sick and not running much. I wanted a solid race. Started a tiny bit closer to the front than last time since I was feeling better. Mainly passed people but of course got passed a few times, too. I saw JD and girl he was pacing and at first I thought I'd stick with them but soon realized I was moving a bit faster than them so I said hi and went on by. Turns out they were doing the 10K anyway, LOL! At the graveyard (near the 1 mile point) I typically see the front runners heading back to the finish but today since I was running a little faster than before I made it to the turn and didn't see any of them. Personal victory! Kept on pace throughout, taking advantage of 'running the tangents' at a few spots and picked off a few people in doing so. On the out and back there is a slight rise (not really a hill) and I thought my hammies were going to cramp; for sure they were complaining a little bit but all was well. In the final stretch I tried to find a little more to give but didn't have much more left. I was excited to see I had come in with a time of 30:xx. Eventually I looked up my old times (I'm a geek that way, keeping all my results in a file in my phone) and saw I beat my previous course PR by 13 seconds, wooo! I can't wait to see if I can nudge a little more off next month! What would you do differently?: Eh, nothing really. Lose some weight, but I am working on that. Post race
Warm down: Walked a bit to collect my breath then EFP took off my chip and we went to the car for our sports drinks. Then we went in for our soup and to wait for awards - EFP got 3rd AG! Later we went to the local brewery for our free beer. What limited your ability to perform faster: Need to lose weight. Incorrect timing situation. They gave the same gun time and chip time for me (and others, but not everyone) which is not the case. In my report I fixed where I should be in AG (6th instead of the 7th they claimed I was with the incorrect chip time) but I didn't fix my overall standing. Event comments: A fun race as always! Ate some noodles before driving to the race site. Drank Nuun. Nothing particularly special. Chatted with some friends/acquaintances before the race.
Dynamic and static stretches, then 2 laps of the track. More stretching.
