Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 0510, b/c my watch alarm didn't work. Scrambled out the door to meet my brother-in-law at 0515. Went to the waffle house for breakfast. That's the second time we had a lousy pre-race brkfst at the waffle house! Have to find a new place to go eat. Headed up the road to the event. Arrived in plenty of time to get checked in, body marked and set up transition area.
Event warmup:

Rode my bike for about ten minutes to get the legs spinning and make sure there were no mechanical issues. Stretched some. Then, about 20-30 minutes before the race, donned my wetsuit and went for a warm-up swim. Very short, and actually, not long enough. Stretched a bit more and waited about 30 more minutes for the start. Sipped on gatorade while standing around and found myself needing to pee right before the gun went off.
Swim
  • 32m 15s
  • 1930 meters
  • 01m 40s / 100 meters
Comments:

My goal was to do the 1.2mi in 30 minutes. Even though my time was 32, I was actually done with the swim on 30:35(yes!!!). But, there was a decent jog from water to transition.
What would you do differently?:

consider not wearing wetsuit.
Transition 1
  • 02m 1s
What would you do differently?:

Consider not having worn wetsuit.
Bike
  • 2h 42m 17s

  • 20.70 mile/hr
Comments:

Started out on the strong but conservative side. Was just lacking confidence that the legs would hold up. Might try going a bit harder from the outset. I did stick to my plan though and it payed off. My goal was to ride the course in 2:45.0. So, I'm actually pretty pleased with my performance.
What would you do differently?:

Spend more time pre-race(training) on race pace distance rides to better gauge my effort levels.
Post race
Warm down:

Swim and stretch.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing. I was on track with my training and matched or beat all my time goals. Being the last wave to swim may have slowed me some. I did have to swim through and around A LOT of people.

Event comments:

Fun race and glad to see more organizers adding the aquabike division.

Performance: Good
This was a 2 lap course. The aquabike heat was the last to go and we had to swim through the masses of people in front of us. My most brutal swim to date.
Suit: Promotion
Course: trapezoid, 2 lap course. Slt wind but not very noticeable. Swimming as the last wave, however, was quite noticeable. First time I ever just swam right over the top of someone and didn't realize it till it was too late. Sorry buddy.
