Pre-race routine:

Drove 2 hrs to the race venue. Registered and had a look at the course.
Event warmup:

Was a little late so only had time for a light jog. Had to take my bike into transition straight away so it wasn't the best prep but hey ... it's only the first race for the season.
Swim
  • 12m 34s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 41s / 100 meters
Comments:

Pretty damn awful swim. Fairly big seas that were really dirty. I found it really hard to get into a rhythm. It wasn't till I got out past the first bouy that I started to swim freely.
What would you do differently?:

Ocean swims are hard especially in big swells and murky waters. More time in the water propbably would be helpful.
Transition 1
  • 00m 33s
Comments:

pretty good transition
What would you do differently?:

at this early stage of the season, it was all pretty good.
Bike
  • 39m 25s
  • 24.5 kms
  • 37.29 km/hr
Comments:

Fairly good ride for the road surface. It was really rough bitumen and therfore slow. Passed heaps of people but only got passed by 1 guy - and he head a disc and tri spoke front wheel (that's my excuse :) )
What would you do differently?:

I thought I could have pushed harder but I just wanted to leave something for the run.
Transition 2
  • 00m 32s
Comments:

Fairly slick transition
What would you do differently?:

no much, was pretty happy with T2
Run
  • 19m 57s
  • 5 kms
  • 03m 59s  min/km
Comments:

I thought I was struggling but when I finished I was surprised with my run time and speed.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, I was at my limit so more run training I suppose
Post race
Warm down:

Had a drink, bit of fruit and a chat with some of thhe local guys from our club.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Early season race so I was pretty happy with where I'm at at the moment.

Event comments:

Pretty good race and I was happy with the effort and performance for my first race of the season. The swim was alittle hairy but great venue and I will definitely be putting this race back on the calender for next year.
