Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:30am it was rainy and cold 13C. Had breakfast, ham pasta and OJ.Packed up the car and left around 6:20am. Got there in good time. Found a good spot to set up. Still had a lot of time before the race. Stopped raining but still cool. Went and picked up my kit.

Event warmup:

Before the race, went in the water for light swim.
Swim
  • 31m 21s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 05s / 100 meters
Comments:

Overall my swim was good I was happy with it, my time was a little bit slower that GL1. But I felt much more comfortable and more relaxed in the water. We had two waves go off 10 min's apart. I was in the 1st wave. When the horn went off I did not rush into the water I took my time I was one of the last people in the water. I went to the left side away from most of the swimmers. For the 1st 500m I don't think that I was touch by another swimmer. I was under control the whole time my pace was good. I lost some time because I went to the left and took my time getting into the water.
What would you do differently?:

Not much maybe get into the water faster.
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

Left my shoes on the bike, had a hard time getting my right foot into my shoe.
What would you do differently?:

Get my wetsuit off faster.
Bike
  • 1h 29m 58s
  • 42 kms
  • 28.01 km/hr
Comments:

My ride went not bad, did not have big hopes for my ride, if I could shave a few min's off I would have been happy with that. When I got on my bike I lost some time trying to get my feet into my shoes. Overall I thought that my ride went well but my time was abit slower. But the rest of the feild was a little slower too. The cold and the wind played a factor in the times.
What would you do differently?:

More training.
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

Good T2 everyting went well.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 1h 02m 6s
  • 10 kms
  • 06m 13s  min/km
Comments:

Nothing left for the run. When I came out of T2 I stopped and went pee.
I lost .55 sec or so. Not a good start to my run. I was not ready for the run. For the whole race I was alternating walking and running.
The only thing that was good about the run was at the end, I had less than 1 km to go to the finish, someone in my age group passed me before we went up the last hill. I said to myself that I have to beat him to the finish, by time I got to the top of the hill I passed him. But I knew that he was right behide me and waiting to make his move. About 200m to go there were a few other people in front of me, I also wanted to pass them. I passed two of them going into the last turn, and then the guy behind me made his move, he took off. We had a full out sprint to the finish line. I beat him by 1 sec to the finish, it was great. My highlight of the day.
What would you do differently?:

More training and better conditioning, with hill and track workouts
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing. Burned Cals 2044

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training, not ready for this race.

Event comments:

Not a very good day. Was not ready for this race, the last few weeks of training did not go as planned. My conditioning was not there. That's it for this year the season is over. I will take at least a mth off.
Until I can get my run under control and bike avg over 30km, I think that I'm going to hold off on Olympic races. In the off season I need to find a good training program for me.
