Swim
Comments: Started out strong. Was at the front for the first ~400m or so. As I fatigued, my navigation dipped a bit and I was zigzagging around too much. NBever pushed too hard, but kept it comfortably hard the whole way. Above average, but not my best swim What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: Long fun uphill from the lake. I passed 5-6 people at least. Got suit off, and into helmet and shoes smoothly and was gone. 2nd fastest T1 overall What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Never pushed, but kept it comfortably hard. Very strong, consistent ride What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: Went smoothly. 2ndfastest T2 overall What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I was a little disappointed with the run. I felt good coming off the bike. First mile was 7:20, although it’s almost all downhill. A volunteer told me I was in third place as I entered the woods, which gave me a jolt of adrenaline and nerves. I slowed some coming in, but kept a steady effort, and pushed all the way til the end. I knew there were some guys coming behind me that I could see on some switch backs. Only got passed by 1 young guy. With the shade, and by taking it a little easier on the bike, I was hoping to run around a 46min 10K What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: Walked around the race site, ate some fruit, and packed up for the drive home What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of speed training Event comments: The race and the course are great. The management of it was very lacking this year, though. There was only 1 person checking people in at registration, so there was a huge line. We had to start 20 min late to give everyone time to get checked in. Since the site is in the middle of nowehere, everyone travelled to the race, and we all had to travel home afterwards. Everyone wanted to get started to beat the heat and to get home quicker. They still waited 20 min between 20 min between starting the different races. I thought they should’ve cut that to 10 min. Then the awards ceremonies were delayed by at least 30 min, if not an hour for the Oly and Endurance events. I would have liked to have stuck around for the awards, but I had been waiting for an hour already when they announced that it would be ANOTHER hour before the awards. I felt that was excessive. Other than Kevin, I only saw the 1 person at Registration and no other support staff. That is my only complaint about the race though. The course is great, location is beautiful, weather wasn’t too hot this year. Last updated: 2019-08-06 12:00 AM
