Swim
Comments: After how I've swam this season, I was feeling really confident and was hoping to challenge for under 30 minutes. By about 200 yards in that plan was out the window. I can't say why, but I just felt bad very quickly. Felt I wasn't getting enough air, some dizziness, and just overall "not good". Very strange and very disappointing. I tried drafting some but found the turbulence to be too bothersome (not usually an issue for me). Kept it conservative and avoided a complete disaster the rest of the way. What would you do differently?: Not sure why this happened, a little sick this week and poor sleep the previous two nights are my best guesses. Pretty funny how many times I've swam 33 minutes here now. Maybe just my destiny. Transition 1
Comments: Had to sit down and take my time here to regroup a little bit. Was disappointed in the swim and still not feeling great. Dried off my feet and got the socks on like planned, but decided to skip the arm warmers. Gloves would've been more valuable anyway as it turned out. What would you do differently?: Can't really fault the time here because the issue was more the swim. Bike
Comments: Used the hill out of town to regroup and try to settle into a decent race pace. I haven't ridden much since IMLP so was hoping to just get by on that fitness. I was able to get into a little bit of a groove but struggled some after leaving Brandt Lake. The cold air was not my friend, and my hands were really uncomfortable for most of the ride, giving me trouble shifting and eating at times. I really never felt "great" at any point, and hoped I could fare better on the run somehow. What would you do differently?: Gloves. Transition 2
Comments: No issues What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Never felt great, at times felt pretty bad. This was a run on nothing but grit and guts, because for whatever reason I didn't have much else today. Getting up the hills the second time was a challenge, and I was hoping to just coast from there in but of course someone was not far behind at the turn around. That pressure kept me moving all the way to the finish and was very happy I found my way in to the top 10. What would you do differently?: Considering how everything unfolded, I'm pretty proud/happy with this run. Post race
Warm down: Got some fluids and fruit, had a massage, and then did an easy 3 miles with Danielle. Def would've skipped that if I were alone, but was glad to get it done. I noticed my cough was much worse after finishing that it was prior, not great. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not sure exactly why, but just wasn't going to be an easy day for me. Proud I fought for the result I ended up with. Event comments: Love love love this race. Great course, best post race food out there. See ya next year. Last updated: 2019-09-04 12:00 AM

Pancakes and oatmeal at Liam's about 2 hours before race start. Drove up with Danielle. Didn't leave myself a ton of time to set up and get down to the beach. Was rushing a bit, which is not my favorite thing to do.
None. Barely had wetsuit on in time.
