Total Time = 21m 4s
Overall Rank = 10/560
Age Group = M 55-59
Age Group Rank = 1/16
Pre-race routine:

Pretty much last minute decision to sign up earlier in the week. Benefits the rabbit shelter I do the books for part-time. No speed training at all due to back injury rehab all through August and September. Healthy today, though.
Event warmup:

0.20/1:30 warmup run just before the start.
Run
  • 21m 4s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Hoped to get close to 20 minutes despite lack of speedwork. If I hadn't let mile 2 drift over 7 minutes, I would have at least had a 20:xx time. Missing sub-21 by 4 seconds is probably bad karma from doubting that Kipchoge would run sub-2 this morning. :)

What would you do differently?:

Not spend most of this year dealing with lower back issues.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around the expo. Picked up my AG medal.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of speed training, pure and simple. That and age...as I round the bend to 60, I can't pretend that I'm good for a sub-20 5K any more.

Event comments:

14th year for this 5K/10K event benefiting multiple animal rescue groups. Actress Jane Lynch was the starter...had a chance to chat briefly with her after the race in the portapotty line of all places.
