Swim
Comments: Swim went well. First 200m was great, got to the first turn buoy in 2nd place. Had a hard time settling back down to race pace, and felt better on the second lap than I did on the first. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: Went OK, but left 5 sec or so out there. Still 3rd fastest T1. Topok extra time putting on a long sleeve jersey which stuck on my wrists since I was wet. Decent hilll to run up out of the water, but ran up, had wetsuit past waist by the time I got to my bike What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: I wasn;’t sure what to expect after the week of riding, minimal sleep, etc. Never felt great, but managed the ride OK. Was pleasantly suprised when I saw the results, as I expected to be much slower compared to others. Only got passed by 2 people, and I passed the 1 guy in front of me. Came into T2 in 3rd place What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: Decent T2, not great, not bad Run
Comments: Again, I hadn’t run in almost 2 weeks, so I didn’t know what to expect. It was cool, though, and I didn’t push too hard on the bike, so I was hoping to run around 46-46:30. I was very disappointed when I saw my time. I didn’twear myGarminadn just went by feel. I felt solid the whole way and thought I was running closer to 7:30s the whole way. Walked at the water stops and for about 15 sec on the biggest hill on the first loop. Ran the entire second loop. What would you do differently?: Need more speed run training. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, changed into dry clothes, left to go to the UT game What limited your ability to perform faster: Bike only training plus international travel for the last 10 days Event comments: Another smaller race by ESM. Like the Fall Creek Falls race, it started late. The swim was fine. Bike course had lots of turns, and a couple of intersections where there were no volunteers. I know of 1 person that made a wrong turn. Run course was boring , with 1 aid station that was passed 4 times. There was only 1 person working it, though, so he was ruining back and forth across the street trying to get water to runners going out and coming in. They could’ve used a couple of more helpers. Post race spread was one of the worst I’ve seen. Fruit, cereal bars, and cookies. There were 2 coolers at the end of the table but no volunteers to help at all at the food stations. None. Luckily, I was in a hurry to leave, so it didn’t affect me as much as others who were waiting around. Also, like FCF, the awards were tentatively going to be given out about 90 min after I finished. I wouldn’t have waited around that long anyway. Good race location, but poor execution by ESM. This race has been much better in the past when I did it. Last updated: 2019-10-13 12:00 AM
