Comments:

Started strong, but at mile 14, the rain had soaked into my shoes and I legit couldn't feel my feet anymore. The headwind along the river hit me hard and I struggle to draft properly (either folks were going too fast or too slow). So I suffered on the way out. On the way back, I was able to capitalize off of the now tailwind and dig back in, but I was hurting. At one point, I passed some cyclists on the course (weird) who muttered bizarrely encouraging things to me ("Yes, smooth, strong, you got this" and "That's right, work together"). Turns out they were a group called "Psychs on Bikes" -- actual sports psychologists practicing their craft. It was pretty amazing and effective. Several teammates were out on the course and their energy and support really helped. As I approached mile 21 I just told myself, "Do you REALLY wanna do this again if you fail?" That was enough to push me to hang on to the pace.
I'm still super proud of this new PR even though it was a little slower than I ultimately wanted. It's faster than two years ago at Wineglass, which was an easier course. So, yeah. Pretty badass after all.

Event comments:

Really great weekend, solid course, totally PR'able. Nice "big" race with a great local feel too it.
