Run
Comments: Kept the first "loop" relaxed and slow, letting the "race" come to me. This is my longest distance in my current training, so I wanted to settle into this and enjoy it. The weather was perfect with a little head-wind on the "back" of the out and back. I ran this in three 5k segments, out and back from/to my car, using my car as my aid station and a spot to stretch. 5k 1 (kept the pace slow and relaxed to settle in before increasing tempo later): 9:42 9:44 9:46 5k 2 (felt the body warmed up and let the body speed up naturally) 9:45 9:36 9:31 5k 3 (felt amazing coming off my last "aid station", decided to let 'er rip and get after it to see how things went: 9:33 9:21 9:03 (last .3 = 8:44) What would you do differently?: I cannot think of any thing I would do differently! This was about as perfect as I could have done for today. Including, if I had kept the 9:30 pace, I had a half marathon in me, which is exciting. Post race
Warm down: Stretched really good at my car, getting fluids and walking around to cool down. Felt great after the run. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing! This was about as perfect as I could have done for where I am in my training right now. Event comments: This was the "virtual" Hot Chocolate race, so there was no "official" course to be run. I made up my own course out on the trails. The above race evaluation is in no way reflective of the "real" race that would have taken place this year. This year's race is "virtual". Got plenty of sleep last night (8 hours) getting up at 5:30. This being a virtual race, I could be pretty relaxed about "race day" today. I was still pretty excited about doing a "race", virtual or otherwise.
Got up at 5:30 and ate a protein bar and drank a couple cups of coffee and water. Stopped consuming food at 7:00am, an hour before the race.
Stretched and warmed up at home, going through my full body warm up that's been working really well this time around. Really focused on hips and IT Band, which historically been an issue, but this time around has been behaving really well.
Gathered up all my stuff into the car and drove the trail (packed limestone trails through the woods).
