Run
Comments: Run went well. Ended up being 16.5 miles. I had no time expectations, just wanted to get some miles in. It was very sloppy and muddy, so I knew it would be slow. Felt bad the first couple of miles and was concerned about it being a very long day. By about mile 4, I settled in, though, started chatting with a guy at the first aid stop, and we ran the next 6-7 miles together, which was nice. Never pushed, but kept it pretty consistent. About mile 11, it opeend up onto some old jeep roads with better footing, and I was able to feel more stable nad started opening up my stride a bit. Felt good the whole way. Back onto the trails for hte last 2 miles, and felt good. Ended up beating the guy by 5+ min over the last 5 miles after we split at the last rest stop. Felt good at the end and had some left in the tank. My goal was to be under 12min mile pace, so I was pretty pleased with the final time, and even more pleased that I felt so good at teh end. What would you do differently?: nothing Post race
Warm down: none. Drank a beer and ate a piece of cold, hard pizza What limited your ability to perform faster: hills and mud Event comments: Great smaller race. No frills, but everything you need is available. The RD is very up front about all of that, though, and I don't need the frills, anyway. Great to have a local race on a fun, but hard and muddy trail. luckily, with the 9am start and a loical race, I didn't have to get up before dawn. Up at 645, ate some eggs and toast, and drove to the race. Sat in the car until 3 min until the start and took off
None. Sat in the car until the last minute with the seat warmers on
