Swim
Comments: Swim was OK. Couldn’t see anything other than the sun heading east. Very hard to navigate. Was bale to go much better when headed west. Never pushed What would you do differently?: Wear tinted goggles. Transition 1
Comments: Went smoothly. No issues What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Didn’t push as hard as I should’ve but wanted to save something for the run. Legs weren’t feeling great from the start. Ended up with an IF of 0.75, with a Normalized power of 206. Route was all over the place, below average pavement, and poor traffic control What would you do differently?: Nothing, given the heat Transition 2
Comments: Went well, no issues What would you do differently?: Nothign Run
Comments: Run went OK. It was 90 but the time I started. Very little shade, so I knew it would be slow. Actually felt good on the first 2 miles around the lake. Was just roasting, though. Hit a few hills in miles 3-4, and then just tried to hold on for the last 2 miles. Miles were 7:32, 8:13, 8:25, 9:06, 8:27, 8:36 What would you do differently?: Nothing. I wasn’t terribly pleased with my time, but overall was pretty good compared to everyone else. Kept moving forward the whole time, and only really walked ona few hills and at water stops Post race
Warm down: Found some shade and sat down for 15 min, then rode back to Dad’s What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat Event comments: Race start was a cluster. When I signed up, start time was listed as 7AM. No mention of any changes at packet pickup. When I looked on liken before going to bed the night before, start had been changed to 6:15. When I got to the site, it had been changed to 6:30. No one lined up in numerical order to start the swim. No one was telling people to line up orderly. I was #363, but didn’t get in the water until almost 25 min after the first person started. The bike had generally poor pavement throughout with multiple turns and intersections where there were no police to direct traffic. I didn’t see any issues, but there could’ve been some. The race site for the swim and run were nice, but the ride was tough. If this was a dress rehearsal for the 1/2IM in Oct, there is lots to improve on- more buoys to help with sighting, better traffic control, sweep gravel off road shoulders.
