Swim
Comments: This was my best 1500M swim ever in a race. Sometimes the course at this race is a little long, but I think this year it must have been closer to accurate. When I got out of the water and looked at my watch I thought "maybe you really aren't that sick". What would you do differently?: Nothing. This was a really good swim. Transition 1
Comments: Transition was smooth. The run up from the beach was pretty long, which account for the greater than 1 min transition. What would you do differently?: Not much. Bike
Comments: For the first 2/3 of the bike, I felt good, but not great. In the first 10 miles I passed 7-8 people and was passed by no one. In the next 8 miles or so I was passed by a couple of people, but I kept them in sight. At about mile 18 I lost all the power in my legs. That's when the rest of the field started to come by me. It was a little disappointing. What would you do differently?: I trained hard and paced appropriately, but I think being sick the previous 2 days finally caught up with me. Transition 2
Comments: I really like my Yankz laces. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I had decided pre-race that if I came out of T2 with no chance of breaking 2:20 that I would shut it down. Well, I came out at 1:42 or so and decided there was no way I was going to run 38 today. So I just cruised the run. It was actually pretty fun not actually killing myself during the run. And I felt like 44 minutes wasn't all that bad. Post race
Warm down: Didn't coold sown all that much. Since the run wasn't all that hard, I just walked around a little and ate some of the post race food. What limited your ability to perform faster: Honestly, being sick really hurt. I feel like I was in shape to go about 2:17 at this race (2:21 last year) especially given the mild weather. Still, 2:26 is faster than I went 2 years ago and it really hurt doing that. So I'm happy with where my fitness is. Event comments: I love this race. It was the first race I ever did (3 years ago). I think being part of the USAT Grand Prix series really stepped up the level of competition this year. The winning time was <2h, which is pretty impressive given the long bike course and all of the hills. Overall, a well run race that I would highly recommend. Last updated: 2006-09-06 12:00 AM

I woke up about 5am, ate some cereal and a banana, took some Sudafed 12h (sick the last 2-3 days) loaded up the car nad drove over to the race. This is my favorite race and one that I like to peak for. It's unfortunate that I had to get sick just before race day.
I got everything set up and then took the bike out for about 15-20 minutes of easy riding. My legs didn't feel all that great so I was a little wary about the day to come. After re-racking the bike I milled about for a little while and then swam some as the start time approached.
