Swim
Comments: I was not swimming hard. Just navigating well. The sun was right at the first buoy, so I navigated off the sun. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 1
Comments: No complaints, just kind of took my time. Jogged a little. My watch time is different from race time because I accidentally hit "lap" twice and then just paused it. What would you do differently?: No desire at this stage to really push harder, but I could be a little more efficient. I could increase my standings just by doing this a little better. Bike
Comments: Lost the chain to the inside at the bottom of a hill. That was annoying to start up from there and to have to stop to fix it. Especially after spending an hour with the bike maintenance guy last night. Did well pushing the downhills. 37.2 mph top speed felt comfortable and not scary. Some of the wind gusts felt a little scary though. My rims are deeper than I'm used to. What would you do differently?: Made sure the rear derailleur is in the mid-range before shifting the front. Transition 2
Comments: Again, I could dial this in better. I'm good with the shoes. I'm too old for a flying dismount. It's not worth the risk. Not feeling like running with the bike either, but I did run out of transition. What would you do differently?: Practice the little things and get faster. Scared of my new helmet falling on the ground, so I had it clipped to the bike. Want to find a better way. Run
Comments: Surprised my pace was that good considering I real did walk quite a bit. My downhill running was strong. The confusion with the course was a problem. The first water station was out of cups, and I thought that's OK, I could miss one. But then because I did two loops of the shorter course, I hit Mile 3 in transition and there was no water there, either. So I missed two water stops in the first three miles. That was a problem. Also had to deal with myself making a mistake and not beating myself to pieces for that. I did report myself to the timing official and since I did extra distance he said it was OK. What would you do differently?: Ask for clarification about the course. Read the sign more carefully. Ask at the water stop. Bring my own cup in my pocket. Post race
Warm down: Got in the water to cool down. It was very hot by the end of the race. The water was really cold but felt nice, so that gave me the idea to not wear my wetsuit for the afternoon race. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not getting enough water on the run, getting the course wrong, not being more powerful on the bike on the hills. Event comments: Another great piece of an amazing, challenging weekend. Last updated: 2022-05-23 12:00 AM
