Blueberry pancakes at Danielle's
Event warmup:

1 mile run, 3.1 mile bike, about 100 yards swim.
Swim
  • 13m 28s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Considering my swim training hasn't been as solid as last season, this was pretty good. Started up front and tried to keep consistent hard effort throughout. Fell off the leader's feet but quickly hopped on to 2nd place's. Stayed there until the second turn, and fell off on the homestretch. Finished within 30 seconds of 1st out of the water so I'll take it!

Transition 1
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

No wasted time here. Passed 2nd out of the water (didn't notice until the bike turnaround) here. Had a little trouble clipping in going up the hill out of transition but no real lost time there.

Bike
  • 51m 15s
  • 18 miles
  • 21.07 mile/hr
Comments:

Wanted to push as close to FTP as possible here, and got pretty close (avg 215, NP 222). Felt like I rode consistent, and a PR on the return segment backs that up. Stayed aero as much as possible. Got passed by one guy near the turn around, didn't pass anyone else. First place was very far ahead (more on that later). Just tried to keep close enough to 2nd to make it interesting on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Just wish I was a better cyclist.
Transition 2
  • 00m 49s
Comments:

No issues. Gained a whopping 25 seconds on the guy ahead of me here - huge in a sprint race.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 17m 16s
  • 3 miles
  • 05m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Crushed this run. Came out of transition with 2nd place on my mind, had to control myself - you don't need to catch him in the first quarter mile. Settled into a fast but sustainable effort, and got him around the 1 mile mark. Kept the effort going to bury him, and also limit the chances of someone from another wave clipping me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around to meet up with friends and cheer for others

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of race wheels? I dunno this was a pretty good performance, considering I only lost to a professional triathlete (Tim Russell)! I'm counting it as a win for me lol

Event comments:

Always love doing this race. Big PR today too!
