Pre-race routine:

Won this last year after signing up the day before. Goal, as usual, was to beat that time (1:27:43)

1h20 drive from my house. Got there at 10 for a 11:08 start.

Set up my stuff, got talking to a very nervous beginner who had just decided that triathlon was her new thing and signed up for the last race in the calendar, and had driven 5 hours the day before to get there.

Event warmup:

Little run little stretch, no swimming this time, just tested the water.
Swim
  • 15m 24s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 03s / 100 meters
Comments:

Stood on the starting line with my goggles on my head and put them on in a panic when the starting gun went. lost some time there and couldn’t get behind one of the fast ones to draft so I was on my own the whole time (except when someone who had drifted to the left cut me off to get back on track)

Still, a good time, 42 seconds faster than last year
What would you do differently?:

Be ready when the starting gun goes. Well, at least I remembered to start my watch and switch to T1 when exiting the water.
Transition 1
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

Transition area about 150 from swim exit

What can I say, that’s what I do. Don’t know if I got my usual T1 podium as the official result add swim +T1
34 seconds faster than last year even though the wind had blown my helmet and sunglasses off my bike.

Bike
  • 41m 19s
  • 20 kms
  • 29.04 km/hr
Comments:

Practiced the U turns this week so did well, but the loss of momentum was tough.
More wind this year and some tough hills I had forgotten about
46 seconds slower
Transition 2
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

A very small transition aera
14 seconds faster
Run
  • 27m 18s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 28s  min/km
Comments:

A nice steady run, slow uphill and tried to gain back some time downhill without falling flat on my face.
Nice finish after the last hill, was able to increase speed for the last km

49 seconds faster than last year

What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Happy that I was able to finish strong, even knowing that my 2nd place was safe (and first place long gone).

Post race
Warm down:

Chatted to that beginner I spoke to before (she’ hooked), collected my prize (a cycling shirt) and drove home

Event comments:

Friendly village race.will be back
